What percent chance would you guys say that Dec 17 is the release date for REA?
No. If accepted it won’t matter, and if deferred, its perfect to save for your update letter of continued interest.
Wait… you applied to both Stanford and Harvard REA? If so, that’s an immediate outright rejection as it is against the rules as we all know…which may explain your Stanford rejection. The restrictive schools 100% share their early applicant database (my sister works for Yale admissions, so I know this for real) just for that reason.
Hey there! So I’m a bit late to this conversation, but I would definitely contact the admission office, @Johnnysickens. I don’t have any experience with the admissions process, but what soflowatcher is saying is similar to what I’ve heard from other sources. Though they could’ve already made a decision regarding your application at this point. I think, and this is pure speculation, but if they decided to accept you then they’ll probably be more lenient. Though if they rejected/deferred you they might refuse. Once again, just pure speculation.
Did you get an interview though?
They say that its based on interviewer availability, but from what I’ve seen from discussions regarding the Harvard lawsuit case almost all admitted students received an interview. Now, I don’t mean to scare anyone since you can be admitted without an interview, but if you’re an international student and you received an interview it’s usually a good sign.
Also, it’s perfectly okay! I’m Pakistani/Indian (family reunions are always a fun time… not an international applicant though, just helped out some students) and I understand how you could’ve been confused by the Early Action policies. Just be sure that you thoroughly read over everything next time though. Don’t ruin your mental health over a mistake. It’s okay. Don’t stress out.
Hi! So this is weird…for personal reasons (basically I am still trying to understand how to complete the CSS Proffile, I am international and my parents’ income, besides being…well probably under 10K a year, is very dispersed and I am trying to get the information from the bank, my father is self-employed and my mother too and in my country we do not have to fill taxes) I have not yet been able to submit my application for financial aid. Could this impact my decision? I just noticed it and can’t stop thinking about it. I feel very bad, because it’s really hard to get the information I’m looking for, and I don’t have any help from the embassy or any counselor, at least not yet.
It won’t impact your decision. It will impact the timing of your FA package.
Thank you for replying! It means a lot.
you have to submit a non-filer statement, you can use IDOC non-filer or Harvard’s (at least that’s what I’ve done)
HAHAHAHA! Funny and probably true!
Quick question! I know legacy status is for parents/relatives that went during their undergrad, but is their any sort of added bonus if they went for a graduate school degree?
Nope. No additional boost for grad school.
And just a correction: Harvard legacy only applies to parents, not to any other relatives.
Suppose one had a grandparent that works at one of the colleges (not undergrad)? Position is professor of med school, eg. Would that be a (soft) nudge?
I am a first-generation student. I know Harvard tends to favor legacy students. Could this potentially hurt my application?
Yes. Any unhooked, or weakly hooked, applicant is always at a disadvantage against a strongly hooked applicant with similar stats.
A faculty brat is an advantage. That advantage all but disappears if the faculty is not your parent.
Hey guys I know at this point it’s waaaay too late to ask, BUT did anyone else not receive an interview? Like I constantly checked my email, spam, application portal, etc. and there was nothing. I know that the website says it’s not based on merit, but I can’t help but think that this can only be a bad sign. I thought I had an ok chance at least with strong academics and pretty decent extracurriculars and essays. I’m no amazing one-of-a-kind legacy, but I just didn’t think my application was THAT terrible to not even receive an interview. Does anyone have any reassuring information of people being accepted without an interview or you yourself not receiving one?
Eric it’s all based on if the interviewers have the time to do it. I’m not 1000% sure if there were any other causes, but 99.9% of the time it’s just because maybe you’re in a location where there wasn’t an interviewer available.
i’m sorry but this doesn’t stand! they could’ve easily request for an online meeting
so a first-generation person is a weakest applicant?
That’s exactly what I was thinking. If interviews are virtual this year, why couldn’t I have been offered a virtual interview?
