Harvard Class of 2025 — Regular Decision

How much do you think the Harvard applications went up? Columbia received 6500 applications ED which is up 85% from the year before.

I’m starting to feel very nervous. I applied to Harvard…thinking that getting in for me was (is) impossible. My parents never graduated from high school, hopefully earning enough to feed me and my little brother. When I received the interview (I am from a country where there are no interviewers available) from the admissions officer I was a little excited, but didn’t want to get my hopes up. I was sure that this whole process wouldn’t matter to me, that I wouldn’t feel nervous, that in the end the chances were 0 if I didn’t try. But I am nervous. I care. And ugh, it’s hard.

Hi,
I understand exactly where you’re coming from. I’ve wanted to attend Harvard since I was in middle school, but I always thought “alright, I’ll try my best, and if it doesn’t happen then whatever”.
But I’ve gotten excited as well. I started to realize “I might actually have a shot at this”. However, my stress and anxiety has also gone up as we are just 2 days away from decisions.

I saw your profile post few months ago and I really wish you would get in. However, there is currently one undergrad student from Uruguay at Harvard, so the chance is very slim.

Yeah, I know him. At the same time, I also know that very few students apply from Uruguay each year. This student who is now here was, in fact, the first in the country to study at Harvard as an undergraduate, as far as I know. Do you think the fact that there is already a student from my country is something very, very important? This was really the least of my concerns, because I didn’t think there could be any country limits or anything like that, but…I don’t know. My admissions officer told me that he read all the applications from the region, I want to think that if they didn’t want more students from Uruguay they wouldn’t have even considered me for an interview, but I don’t know what to think anymore.

They won’t limit applicants from Uruguay. If you are a good candidate, meet or exceed other applicant qualifications and you meet their goals for how they want to build the 2025 class, then you have as good a chance as any qualified international candidate. I know that the smallest percentage of total admission is international applicants at around 11%. Therefore, overall it is harder for international candidates to get admitted, but being from Uruguay will not eliminate you and there being a current student from Uruguay isn’t going to eliminate you. That’s IMHO from what I’ve read.

Ha ha ha :joy: I think you should but how would you give them the proof … Click some pics while walking lol…

How many of y’all submitted SAT Subject tests? I only was able to take Math 2 (which I submitted). Do you think they’ll matter at all this year?

i submitted three subject tests (math 2, math 1, and literature)

They released their ED app numbers already? For Class of 2024 they had 4300-ish ED apps so if they got 6500-ish this year, then it’s looking like about a 50% increase from 2019 to 2020, but that’s still a huge increase. It’s gonna be real interesting to see all the final numbers.

And if Columbia went up, you can bet all the others did too. I was expecting 30% and not 50%, but I guess I’m not surprised.

I didn’t submit SAT subject tests at all. I don’t think they’ll matter much this year, though.

The anticipation is killing me. Less than 36 hours away!

I’m obviously very hopeful for the best but I’m also so nervous. Kinda trying to mentally prepare myself for a rejection or deferred lol but who knows.

Yeah same, I am also preparing for rejection, I think my deferral chances are slim and acception is just a super rare thing for me :sweat_smile::sweat_smile:

Oh yeah, same. I’ve pretty much accepted the rejection/deferral letter.

I’m just hoping my recommendation letters, interview, and counselor recommendation work in my favor lol. I’m not legacy, and I don’t have any major research or awards. However, I think I presented myself well on my application and interview so hopefully that helps.

I am expecting the worst, I understand that very few internationals are accepted in this round. I hope the interview, my extracurriculars, essays and letters of recommendation mean something. I’d love to see a deferral letter to prepare myself mentally hahaha (I already saw the rejection one) weird I know.

Is anyone going to open their decision letter with their family around? My family keeps begging me to let them be there, but I’m afraid I’ll be overwhelmed with others around.

my plan is to open it in private and if i get in, i will call them over to see it lol. if i get deferred or rejected i might just keep it to myself and not say anything until someone brings it up
