Harvard Countdown!

I used the Ivy League as a gauge of where to look...and I just happened to end up liking most of them...

I applied to the University of Michigan, Cornell, and Duke, which I've basically been accepted to, and I'm waiting on the University of Chicago, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and University of Pennsylvania...it's going to be a rough Thursday.

As dishonest as this may sound, I applied to all 6 Ivies for similar reasons as Squiggle88. There's no way I would ever apply to a school solely b/c of it's name. You may get that impression, but if you took a second to get to know me, you'd realize that I genuinely seek the best educational/personal environment to further my dreams.
I carefully looked into the Ivies and other great schools. I applied to all but Brown and UPenn. Aside from Ivies I applied (and was accepted into): Amherst, Williams, NYU, SUNY Binghamton, SUNY Geneseo, SUNY Stony Brook, and SUNY Stony Brook Honor's College.
I love all the places I have applied to and honestly, the TWO biggest factors that I will use to discriminate between my top schools are: a) financial aid offers, and b) campus visits! I hope to make the choice that's right for me. I advise you all to do the same or to at least think along a similar wavelength!
Good luck to you all on Thursday and thereafter! Wherever you get accepted, you will thrive and inspire many to reach success as well! :)

-Jon

APDooLittle, you're so nice. I've been reading your posts, and it's great to find somebody who isn't vindictive, competitive and whatnot, and is genuinely as nervous as I am about this whole process :)

Thanks! I'm very thankful for CCers like you who realize this! You have no idea how many people automatically think one is a competitive snob when one mentions having applied to an Ivy League school. So thanks... Good luck to you, SilverLight! :)

I applied to 4 Ivies and considered 5 (The Brown application means too much work for me :)). I did not have the choice. These were the only schools that will accept me without diploma:(

APDoolittle- try turning down Harvard for a SUNY school. I dare ya.

Except, of course, financial restrictions are present.

Haha... that's a tough bet! I know I just preached about the role of college prestige, haha and if I DO get into Harvard... believe me, I shall be lured by the name! But in any case, I want to go where I'll feel happiest, so if that happens to be Binghamton or Geneseo, then so be it! What if I end up not liking the vibe @ H at all?? Idk... just some scary thoughts as the decisions loom close and the nightmare slowly approaches a near end.... (I hope) ;)

Haha that is true, you could be turned off by it. However, I know I'd go to Harvard for the name (and all the doors that open as well). Whether or not I could ever get in in a million years is another story.

i already have my mind set to a small local school...

i just applied to all the top schools in the nation to see how much i can brag to my friends...

jonny! long time no speak. how are you?

You have no idea how many people automatically think one is a competitive snob when one mentions having applied to an Ivy League school.

Dude you have no idea. I can't even mention Harvard without people getting jealous and putting me down for having dreams. But my dreams are a little too big for me anyway. I don't think I'll get into any of my schools other than UVA which I got a likely letter from but I get crap for even applying to Harvard.

My college list:
Harvard
Yale
UPenn
UVA

Good luck to everyone on Saturday and a bunch of you on Thursday for Yale and UPenn.

yo baggins i got a likely from UVA too

Cool. Which college did you apply to? Have you heard anything from the scholars programs yet?

I'm so confounded confused right now. First, in my area, people are weird and think I'm a pretentious snob for not being more excited about Ivy schools. I get more put-downs for saying I might attend Indiana University than I do saying I applied to Harvard (I was actually goaded into applying by my classmates and teachers). Then there's my tendency to change my mind on what's best for me at least once an hour. I have no idea what would be best for my future--there are so many conflicting arguments. Go to HYP, you'll have connections and invaluable resources, go to an LAC, you'll have individual attention and can grow unhindered, go to a state school, it'll give you good perspective on real life, and then there are a handful of stay-here-and-go-to-community-college-with-mes. ARRRRGH.

The community college kids have it right, stay with them, it's better than Harvard.

Hmmm, I don't think your decision is that hard, really. You'll see enough of the real world once you're in the real world. Who cares about your community college buddies...they can work for you once they graduate anyways. The LAC + Ivy league thing is a fair enough thing...but c'mon, it's an ivy league school!

Only a day and some stupid hours

***!?!?!? I thought Harvard was on April 1. I'm so confuzed now. Oh God I haven't barced myself for this yet. I was only expecting two decisions. AHHHHHHHhhhhhh. Okay, freakout over no it isn't but initial freakout over. crap so the world ends sooner lol. it just sucks that I won't even be home to see my decision until late. For once i wish i didn't have a soccer game.

I agree with Divanny. I could never go to a comm. college just for the fact that it would take away from the experience. Thats half of the reason for a college. And Ivy can put you up there for a great job. On average Ivy league kids generally make 1 million dollars more in a life time than kids who go to state schools or comm. colleges or at least thats what my Yale interviewer said.

1 Day And 18 Hours

Ahhhhh it's so close, the anticipation is killing me (though I didn't apply, I'm living vicariously through everyone here)
