<p>I don’t know what the OB/GYN in your area are smoking, but there is NO WAY you need to be on birth control 5 months to be protected. I have never heard more than 30 days, and from experience (as well as several girlfriends’ experiences) it has always been effective after 7 days unless it’s the first time you ever take it. 5 months is insane.</p>
<p>Unusual, that doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. You have to cycle through once. BC works by not letting you ovulate. That doesn’t take 5 months. It takes a week before it’s effective if you’re not on your period. </p>
<p>I think they recommend you cycle through once just to be safe.</p>
