<p>the idea behind a likely letter is to encourage people to come who otherwise might not matriculate. i don't really get it either, but maybe a letter from Harvard a week before you're supposed to hear from them might make you more inclined to consider the school.</p>

<p>that claim. the article was published about a week ago, and so far we've heard from no one who's gotten a likely since then.</p>
<p>They might go out 3 days before March 31st. That will of course significantly alleviate stress for a student who hasn't gotten anywhere. :)</p>
