I applied to Harvard through their early action program, and they “misfiled” one of my documents. They said it was too late and that i would just have to wait until regular action. Is this really protocol because I feel like I got screwed over. I chose to apply to Harvard in their restrictive program, but they just lose my application and make me wait until regular action where I’ll be considered a deferred applicant. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there any action I should/can take?
Sorry, but there really isn’t anything you can do.
Did they actually tell you they misfiled and lost this document? This doesn’t sound right at all. This is one case where the guidance counselor should get involved perhaps. Or maybe you should meet with an admissions person, preferably Fitzsimmons.
Perhaps they can explain that your odds do not change, if that is possible, but then you would feel better.
If that is not true, then no, this isn’t fair. They should make a decision based on what you sent in minus that document, or if that document is essential, they should have given you a chance to resend it, I would think.
As records are electronically stored and liked via Common App, there isn’t much to misfile. However, their decision is final.
