Harvard or Cambridge

This is (yet) a hypothetical question and some will throw in the objection that it is useless to talk about something that is unlikely to happen, anyway.
Whatever, maybe some others are willing to give their opinion.

I intend to major in computer science. What is the better place to study this - Harvard or Cambridge?

OK, that's a very general question, I know. People will say that Stanford and MIT are the best schools for CS. Fair enough, but I want to choose between Harvard and Cambridge. Is Cambridge known for computer science? What about Harvard?

What would you do, and why?

I think Cambridge is better known for computer science. But Harvard is the best university brand name in the world by a long shot, no matter what you are studying. So it's a tough call, but I know where I'd rather be.

go for cambridge. having done so much research on the ivies, i come to the conclusion that harvard is great as a grad school, but its undergrad side isn't as fantastic as one would hope it to be given the reputation of the school. and who says cambridge isn't also one of the best university brands in the world? ultimately its up to you though

Well, when it comes to the field of science and technology, I will always prefer Cambridge over Harvard...coz Cambridge is well know in that area..while Harvard tops in business field....anyway..the choice is urs!!..

so i am assuming you have perfect SAT's, a 4.0, international ranking in two or three sports and a buttload of additional national/ intl level ec's??
oh u dun? when you do and are into both then repost

guitars_girls, if you have nothing to say, just don't post.
Thanks for the other opinions. I think it confirmed my tendency.

Harvard. :p

I'm a prestige whore ..:D

"oh u dun? when you do and are into both then repost"

It might be useful to know which one you'd prefer applying to, though. The US and England have pretty different standards for college admission and it helps to concentrate on just one country.

Well, I already applied to both (and got into Cambridge), so never mind :)

So Go For It Man!!!!!(hope Ur Male..:p..).....cambidge All The Way!!...:D..

Yeah - I am very positive that I'll go there. And I love it :)
The only college that would make me reconsider my decision is MIT. But I'm not even too sure about that.

Congratulations. It's a very nice town/campus. What college did you get into?

Cambridge, for science, IT and engineering. outside of that, i would pick Harvard. Who says Cambridge is not as prestigious as Harvard must be joking.

BUt for IT, I would rather go to UC Berkeley.

I would say there is no college better than Stanford for CS..though you might want to go there as grad student..That's just my opinion. Good luck!

Yeah, Stanford and MIT are perfect for CS; however, their strength in this field is probably more relevant for graduate studies. I think that Cambridge (which is also very well-known for CS due to Microsoft's research lab, etc.) might be perfect for undergraduate.
