Harvard or Georgetown

Good evening! (or morning, depending where you are!)

So, basically, I have narrowed my college selections down to Harvard & Georgetown. I am interested in political science & government. I might also consider a secondary major or perhaps a minor in a business related field. The option to be pre-med should be open although I am not extremely seriously considering it at this point. I have visited both campuses and feel welcome at both. The financial aid packages are essentially identical. I am accepted at the college at Georgetown, so I would be changed to SFS if I did ultimately decide to go there.

Help! I have 3 days! :(

Congrats on your options. If it weren’t for your particular interest(s), I’d say this is a no-brainer. But Harvard is absolutely a more competitive environment. Is that a plus or a minus for you?

That was completely opposite from my G-Town visit

I recently visited Georgetown’s campus because my bro was taking me to see UMD-CP as a potential transfer school for me. He asked me if i wanted to go see the campus and I was like sure. I personally thought that Georgetown’s campus was boring. It has nothing but ancient buildings. And nothing but buildings. Also, the campus looked very dead (I saw the school on a week day).

Sorry, I can’t pick for you but Harvard is definitely better.

Harvard, if you feel equally comfortable at both. There’s NO comparison in the opportunities you’ll see made available to you.

^OP, go to harvard.
It’s very difficult to change to the SFS from the College at Georgetown (just as difficult as being admitted to the SFS alone), so there’s a very good chance you won’t get it.

Harvard - by a mile.

Love Georgetown (I’m going there next year), but go to Harvard. Transferring from COL to SFS will be annoying and not worth it if you can just go to Harvard.

With similar financial packages, I would choose Harvard without question.

I think DC trumps Boston, but for undergrad, go to Harvard and then GTown may be a really good option for grad. school if you’re still interested in IR/PoliSci, etc.

Though I would really love to say that in undergraduate Harvard really beats Gtown and Gtown’s campus is more than boring, but considering the IR or political science, I think you should consider Gtown a little bit

I think you should pick Harvard. If you do well there it shouldn’t be hard to get into GTown for grad school. Plus, it’s HAHVAHD! You really can’t go wrong though and if you are good enough to get into Harvard, chances are you will be successful anywhere.

The problem here is that the OP applied for Georgetown College, not the School of Foreign Services, where the IR program is actually at! And at Georgetown, that transfer is very, very difficult to make.
That’s why it should be Harvard, and it’s a no contest.

Harvard of course. Go go go!
