Harvard or UC Berkeley? Where should I go?

I need help choosing a college. I want to become a registered dietitian and psychologist and eventually open up my own practice. UC Berkeley has a great Nutritional Science major and Psychology major I could double major in. Harvard does not have nutritional science per se but I could make my own major through their special concentration. They have a school of public health so designing a concentration integrating psych and nutrition shouldn’t be that hard. I got a “full ride” to Harvard because of financial need but am still $5K short to Berkeley. I have applied to scholarships though and it may be enough to cover my remaining costs but I won’t know until mid May. Technically I do not need to major in either major because in order to become an RD and psychologist I would need to go to grad school which allows me to have a bachelor in any course as long as I take the required prerequisite courses. But I’m really interested in nutritional science and would be sad not to study it undergrad but I mean I guess I could still study it at Harvard. I would just need to design my own course of study. Any suggestions or advice? Decision day is May 1st.

For undergrad, I’d go for Harvard for sure. It’s only at the grad school level that Berkeley and Harvard are comparable.

Harvard without question: lower cost, more intimate connection to professors and better alumni. I don’t think Cal can compare besides the UCs just lost a ton of money, programs and research opportunities will most likely be greatly impacted.

I think Harvard. If you create your own major, you won’t just be flying solo. There will be advising, and they aren’t going to okay that without devising a curriculum for you to follow. BUT, I would talk to someone about this before you decide. If you are totally certain you want to study nutritional science, and they actually don’t have any qualified profs to advise you in that, it might be unsatisfying and possibly mean you won’t be getting what you need as an undergrad.

Also, don’t assume the 5k scholarship will happen. If that money is a deal breaker, go to the school where you don’t have to pay.

Due to the difference in cost, you’ll just have to settle for Harvard.

Another vote for Harvard here.

For undergrad, definitely Harvard College.

stats?

Sure. I’m new on this website so hopefully I get the lingo right. Honestly, my stats weren’t too incredible but I got into most collges so here we go.

SUMMARY/ADVICE:
In total, I took 10 AP classes in HS, 3 honors courses, and 1 accelerated course. I got a B in one class my freshman year. All I really did was take advantage of whatever resources I had available since my school only offers about 15 AP classes. I did extracurriculars that I was interested in and hoped for the best. Also, I had a really good interview for Harvard. Just hope the conversation flows into a topic you’re passionate about.
