harvard orchestra

i know that harvard has about half a dozen orchestras on campus but which is the best one that most people refer to? is it the radcliffe orchestra or the harvard pops?

i'm going to be sending in a cd of solo and orchestra solo excerpts. i know that when i send in the cd the admissions will send it over to the music department for evaluation. but do you think if i contacted the director of music directly first and revealed my interest in the group it would be beneficial?

no... don't do anything they don't suggest, esp. since ur cd is going to be sent to the admissions office, and then to the music faculty for evaluation anyway, there's no point in letting the music director know twice.

yea it would be HRO.

You must be good to think about playing there :D.

i was gonna try to major music in conservatories like curtis eastman juilliard or new england but i wanted good academics more so yea.. been looking at harvard

The top orchestra at Harvard is the Harvard Radcliffe Orchestra. It's the oldest symphony orchestra in the US. You gotta be good to get in.

I tried contacting the HRO and couldn't get a hold of them

It's extremely competitive. Good luck getting in.

What information were you trying to get from HRO?

Damn Julliard? I'm still at the beginning Concerto No 3 Level, so obviously no high level orchestra for me. Good luck to you.

I wanted to know if I could send them the supp cd's

JW, but does anybody know about the availibility of resources for String Bass? I noticed on their website that they don't have as many string bass players, and I was wondering if this was because they didn't have many resrouces or a challenging enough environment to attract more bass players
