Harvard RD applicant discussion 2024

Harvard prioritizes applications for interviews. Asian lawsuit doc shows this. 1 to 4. 1 is high priority, 4 is no interview.

@ohnoitsme So if I have my interview this Wednesday but reports were due on Saturday will they even consider it?

yes

@collegeready33 Don’t worry about it. My DS just received an interview request today. He won’t be able to get it done before this Friday. so you should be fine.

Hi! Is recieving an interview offer from an admissions officer a good sign for international students?

In the application portal it says that the midyear report should be sent in by 2/1. However, my semester grades came out on 2/10 and my counselor sent them out on 2/11. Will I be penalized for this?

@mathisfun888 On the Harvard admissions website, there is a timeline and submitting your midyear school report is listed under “Mid-February” so it seems they are expecting them to come in later than February 1.

The admissions website and the portal have conflicting information. My kid’s mid year grades only came in day before yesterday and the midyear report was sent yesterday. Hopefully it works and is not too late.

No. Harvard knows that they cannot be sent until they are available from the HS.

My D had her school upload her mid year transcript into the common app and we can see that Harvard and other schools have downloaded it. If an applicant was deemed a reject after an initial screening, would the school bother to download the mid term transcript?

yes

i submitted one (bio E) and was admitted. I am upper middle class.

One what? One subject test? And you were admitted to Harvard?

From what I heard, the midyear report on the Common App gets sent to all schools that say “required” and then it gets automatically downloaded & pulled into the portal not selectively.

Hey guys! UK applicant here (London to be exact). Applied an hour before the deadline (I know not the best thing to do) and still haven’t heard back. Not sure whether I should be worried or not as many answers are quite conflicting as to why I may not have been invited to interview yet. I know they say it’s based on the region and how many alumni interviewers are available, but seeing quite a few people say that they only interview realistic international applicants has worried me a bit.

Any internationals on the same boat?

Thank you @juleval and @skieurope.

Hey im from india and i too applied at the last moment.I think interviews are actually offered according to availability of alumni(lets hope).I guess the most people getting interviews here are from US itself where abundant alumni are available.

My D did not receive an interview from Stanford, but was admitted REA. She applied Harvard RD and did receive an interview, so who knows how this works.

Congratulations to your daughter.

Stanford began their interview program only a few years ago, the interviews are “optional,” and many of their applicants, even those who are admitted, are not interviewed. It’s not the same as the Harvard system.

Thank you. Good to know. Do you happen to know how important the Harvard interview is for the admissions committee ?
