Hello! I already sent off my apps to Harvard (SCEA) and UVA (EA), so I just thought that I would post my stats just like other UVA and Harvard SCEA applicants have been doing.
ACT: 34 Composite, 35 Writing
SAT II Math II: 770
SAT II Bio M: 760
Academics Awards:
National Spanish Exam Gold Recipient (National Level award)
National Merit Commended Scholar (missed semifinalist cutoff by one point) (State/Regional Level Award)
AP Scholar
Honor Roll at best preparatory school on the west coast (School Level Award)
GPA: Current 4.54, so will probably be Cum Laude. I currently am talking all AP’s and have current weighted GPA of 5.12 and unweighted 4.0. I have all A’s and A+'s in the hardest classes at my school
-Really good upward trend for a student who has been strong academically since freshman year. My school only counts sophomore, junior, and senior GPA, so I got a 4.2 weighted sophomore year (3.9 unweighted), 4.6 weighted junior year (4.0 unweighted), and currently 5.12 weighted after the first quarter of senior year (4.0 unweighted)
Hooks:
Even though I am not first gen or URM, I have a really unique hook which I talked about in my supplemental essay to Harvard (I ended up writing that with the prompt Why Harvard in mind). Every woman in my family has carried the Alzheimer’s gene, so I talked about how even though I have at least a 50% of getting early-onset Alzheimer’s, I like to believe my fate is more than a statistic. Then I connected it to my passion for healthcare, especially neurology, and how I have founded a concussion program for high school athletes that baseline tests them and warns them of the risk of possible dementia and long term brain symptoms and problems. It has spread to all over my county, which is a county of over three million people.
Legacy:
I am legacy at UVA. I am also applying to MIT RD and the soccer coach is going to support my application through admissions. My uncle also graduated from and was a very notable profesor at Harvard for a bit (he’s now one of the deans on track to be president at Middlebury College), but I don’t know if Harvard will take that into consideration.
Essays:
As I talked about before, my supplemental essay for Harvard was amazing, if I say so myself. One of my teachers, who wrote a recommendation for me and actually went to Harvard and was an admissions officer there, said that my “why Harvard” essay was the best essay on the prompt he has ever seen for any school.
My common application essay was also deemed by him and other teacher’s as AMAZING, but it all depends on what Harvard thinks.
My UVA questions were 10/10 as well.
Extracurriculars:
-Like I said before, founded and created a free concussion baseline testing and awareness program for high school student athletes all over the county. We have been implemented into many different sports, such as football, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey and volleyball. To date we have tested hundreds of athletes. My dad is a sports medicine doctor so I have always had an interest in healthcare and the well-being of others, and after watching my best friend, who was prepping to play soccer Notre Dame, receive a career-ending concussion, that, along with my family’s history with Alzheimer’s disease, prompted my research into this field. Some of the data we have collected could be used in a clinical study.
-Elite soccer player: starting midfielder on the team that has finished in the top two and three in all of CALIFORNIA in the past two years. My team also competes in regional and national championship events. I would walk-on to the team at Harvard but UVA is a super good soccer team so I would either walk-on to be a practice player there or play club.
-Varsity soccer and starting center midfielder since freshman year. Team Captain. Helped team finish fourth in southern California Interscholastic federation last year.
-Only one selected out of hundreds of high school and UCSD students to intern at the largest primary sports medicine provider IN THE COUNTRY over the summer!
-Very skilled with my hands (which translates with my goal to be a neurosurgeon) and have played classical piano for fifteen years and completed California Music Tests with distinction. Also, I am an oil painter who specializes in fine, detailed paintings. My work has been showcased alongside famous artists’ works in the Museum of Contemporary Art and other large museums. Sent in piano and painting supplements.
-Starting low defender on varsity lacrosse since freshman year. Lead team to finish fourth in the county.
Soccer in College:
MIT - coach is supporting my application RD, so it heavily increases my chances.
HARVARD - no technical support in admissions, but it Harvard admissions is interested in me and contacts athletic department about me, the coach will be able to give me a verbal recommendation of how I would help grow the program to a higher level in D1
YALE - I’m applying RD, so coach is going to give admissions a recommendation of me.
all other colleges beside UVA I would walk-on but have no support in admissions at all.
Recs:
Math teacher of two years, A+ in all semesters of her class. She told me she is going to say that I am her best student she has ever encounter or had in all of her 50 years as a teacher around the world.
English teacher (Harvard alumni and ex-Harvard admin officer): Similar to above, but will go a little deeper into my passions and nature outside classroom since we have a very good relationship and he supports me in all my activities and sports outside of my English class. He will say I am most thoughtful and thorough student he has ever had.
