Harvard Supplement #2?

I'm just about ready to submit my SCEA application to Harvard, but I am torn on the second question of the supplement (the optional one with a list of suggested topics). Is there some sort of unspoken rule/regulation that not doing the essay pretty much guarantees rejection/deferral due to showing laziness? I have an essay that I think would fit well for the question, but I'm not sure how impactful it will be. Is there any real disadvantage to leaving this question blank if I believe the rest of my application is 100% complete?

Bottom Line: If my application stands well on its own, should I submit an essay for #2 on the Harvard Supplement? What are advantages/disadvantages to doing so?

Hundreds of students are accepted every year to Harvard without writing the supplemental essay. Many applicants use the essay they wrote for Yale or Princeton for Harvard’s supplement (that’s what my son and daughter did). Bottom line: It doesn’t matter. If you have another essay that would add another dimension to your application, then include that essay as part of Harvard’s supplement. If not, no worries!
