Harvard Supplement

(I'm not entirely sure which forum this should be posted in; if this is the wrong forum, I hope someone can point me in the right direction! Thanks! :))

The Harvard Supplement to the Common App allows for an additional essay, "if you wish." Does Harvard expect its applicants to submit a second essay? Will submitting only one essay jeopardize admission chances? The suggestion for an additional essay is nowhere near as strong as Pomona's "strongly encourage," but I'm not 100% sure what Harvard is expecting in its applications.

If CC could shed some light on this, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks again!

For selective colleges, optional = do it.

The margins are so thin for colleges at this level, why wouldn’t you submit an additional piece of information about yourself?

Submit it. When they get down to you vs. another candidate they will pull out those essays and if you don’t have one it will work against you.

Thank you both!
