Hey, so I decided to start this thread because I didn’t see a RD thread for Harvard 2022 applicants! Best of luck on your apps! I hope to make this a helpful community, not just a. chance me thread!
I’ve seen some results threads that include submitted date… does the day you submit really matter?
No. Not at all. The only advantage for the applicant to submit early is that it gets it off his/her plate. While submitting early helps admissions start organizing packets, it has zero impact on the final decision, IMO.
How early should I submit it? I’m assuming commonapp is going to be really laggy on the first.
As soon as you are happy with it, have checked the essays for typos/grammar, etc. I would not wait until 11;59 on the due date, though
This is one of the few areas where I disagree with @skieurope, and we’ve had this discussion before. Submitting early allows the College to forward your name to the area interview coordinator, and thus that person has a little more time to schedule an interview. There is some debate on CC about whether or not the interview matters, but given the fact that there are always several frantic threads from students who are not contacted for an interview, it seems to matter to applicants.
Perhaps, but that goes back to my earlier point that submitting early helps Harvard, not the applicant, as I do not believe that there is any advantage to having an interview scheduled earlier rather than later (or having an interview at all, but that’s beside the point.) I’d also point out that today is 12/20. Interviewers are all alumni who in many cases, are either winding down for their holiday break, or already on vacation and therefore may not act on any emails until their return. So I go back to my opinion (and point out that both of us are only offering opinions) that the timing will not matter.
Regardless, I would not rush through an application just on the off-chance that an interview gets set up early.
And those frantic threads seem to be outnumbered by the frantic threads by students stating they made a mistake/typo on their application.
I’m still amazed that people are still fixated on interviews being a major player in one’s application process. Yes, I guess it would be better to get it out of the way as soon as possible, but the interview will for most applicants have very minimal impact on their acceptance decision. So I would agree with skieurope that it would be better to submit the application when you’ve given it enough time to make sure it is “perfect” and ready to be submitted. Not to be hurried so that one may get an earlier interview.
Never did I say that an application should be rushed to get an interview. What I did say is that students on CC appear to want to have an interview as a part of their application, and submitting an application early is likely to help that process. I would not recommend rushing an application under any circumstance. Whether the interview matters is another matter of debate; not sure that either you or I knows how much it matters, @noanswers, and this probably varies from candidate to candidate anyway.
What a 17 year-old **wants/b is not always what is best. YMMV.
I submitted all of mine around October 31 so that it was done and over. I did ED to CU but wasn’t accepted to CU ED. so I did RD to my other schools. So I’d say try to get it all done when you are absolute done and proud of your application, earlier I would say is better as long as you are confident with the application. Hope this helps!
Interviews and essays are more important than most applicants believe, especially at competitive schools that have any number of academically gifted students
from which to select.
Need all the “ tie-breakers” to be favorable.
@EastGrad My comment wasn’t directed specifically at you, but in generality. Previous thread with the Harvard SCEA had many kids that seem to be having an anxiety attack of whether they were getting an interview or not. I would agree with @Questar that for a school with less than 6% acceptance rate anything that can help to break the tie is useful. However, it is my understanding that an essay would have a far more significance and impact on their candidacy than an interview.
Does anyone know the notification date for regular decision?
3/28 for all Ivies, I believe.
I believe it’s 3/30, although it may change.

Although Cornell is quoting 3/29, and all Ivy league colleges announce RD on the same date. So, somewhere around there.
@skieurope Harvard hasn’t announced the date yet, but some other Ivies have and it’s March 28 (subject to change, of course).
Source? I did not see a firm date on any admissions site other than Cornell which quoted 3/29 which I stated. Harvard date of 3/30 was quoted in the Crimson. Hence, why I said somewhere around there.
