Harvard University Class of 2022 SCEA Applicants Thread

@MaybeHarvard2022 make a phone call. i just had to call to fix something and the people who work at the admissions office are friendly and can give immediate answers as opposed to waiting for a response to an e-mail

@maralyn99 thank you for the advice! I actually just emailed them but I’ll follow up with a phone call tomorrow if they don’t get back to me beforehand.

@jswani Did they contact you through email?

@ballin2022 Yes, I received an email shortly after submitting my application. I think it depends largely on how many people from your area apply, if interviewers are available in the area, etc.

Also, just left my interview. It was two hours long and incredibly enjoyable. Connected wonderfully with the interviewer and hopefully it helps. Best of luck to everyone else awaiting interviews!

Yes URM!

Maryln, where are you from?

North Carolina, Native American Female.

And there you have it! I just turned in my Harvard application, the rest is in God’s hands.

I wish all of us the best of luck! Just remember that regardless of the results, each one of you has done incredible things throughout these 4 years. We have all tried our best, so now it really depends on the admission officers  I am super excited for December!

@jswani what did you discuss?

@MaybeHarvard2022 All kinds of stuff. I’m fairly certain the specific interview questions are up to the individual interviewer, beyond a few basic things Harvard wants to know.

He did ask me for my grades, test scores, background, etc so it was clear that Harvard didn’t send much background information beforehand.

Just submitted… trusting all that happens from this point forth is part of God’s Plan™…

Just noticed the following added to the portal:

“The mid year report is due upon completion of your first semester. For EA applicants, please keep us up to date with your most current set of grades.”

What is the meaning of the second sentence?

If we know a faculty member at Harvard who we have a relationship with - not strong enough for a letter of recommendation, but a relationship nonetheless - is it commonplace for them to, potentially, send an email on behalf of an applicant to admissions? @skieurope

@LOA1000 I would not say commonplace. Most faculty will not put his/her reputation on the line for someone s/he does not really know.

Is it worth a warm bucket of spit? If the relationship is not strong enough for a LoR, it will not make a whit of difference in the admissions process.

Additional recs dont appear on the applicant portal correct?

I don’t recall that having been there when I applied - maybe I just forgot. But that’s a good example of something one should contact Harvard for clarification instead of relying on guesswork.

I did say earlier that it is not unheard of for Harvard to call GC’s for updates. I doubt that Harvard wants to get thousands of emails saying “I got a 4.0 again this quarter” or “I got a C on a chem exam.” But certainly request clarification.

Just submitted my application & my arts supplement!!

@jswani how many days after you submitted did they contact you about interview, if you don’t mind me asking

@MaybeHarvard2022: No, I don’t think they do because it’s not a required material.

@me2022: I called the office of admissions and they said if you had any quarterly grades, your counselor could upload them, but that nothing is required to be submitted. So, if your in the case that I’m in with no official grades so far into the school year, don’t worry about uploading or doing anything.
