I’m from Cali and had my interview last Friday I’ve never posted before but have been actively reading this thread! I really hope we can all get in!
Really regret falling in love with this reach. It’s going to suck come December.
it’s ok @Noahdutch if we don’t get in to Harvard this year there is always the option for Grad School. Never give up!
@Noahdutch Don’t feel that way! I definitely agree with @Chozley in terms of the option for Grad school. I know that grad school seems far away, and we’re anxiously waiting for undergrad acceptances, but honestly… you never know what’s going to happen! Be positive
Literally cannot believe this thread has more than 340 replies!! It feels like yesterday when I created this thread. I’m so happy we have this awesome community. I’m really glad I got to know some of you (to a certain extent) by reading your posts. Hopefully we will get to meet each other in-person on campus
@skieurope thank you so much! I’m a little more calm now ahah. Your help is always appreciated :-SS
@Noahdutch I totally get what you’re saying I spent my summer in Cambridge for an internship and I spent a ton of time on campus and fell heads over heels in love after talking with students (even though I promised myself I wouldn’t). But, as everyone says, there’s always gad school, and it isn’t the end of the world. I’m sure you’ve got some amazing things going for you and I wish you all the best <3
Good Luck to both of you !! Tell me how it goes; I’m really nervous and excited, but I’m sure I’ll be just fine.
Hey everyone, so here is my dilemma. I (was) planning to take the SAT Subjects USH and Math 2 this Saturday and as a result, I indicated to Harvard in the “additional info” section that I placed an order for those scores to be sent as soon as they were available for EA, but I think I want to take Math 1 instead.
- Is that a bad move?
- How could I notify H of the change?
- How would I place the order for the Math 1 score if it's different from my registration?
Afro-Latina from California here! I didn’t write the optional essay or send a second subject test score…yikes. It was intentional though. I didn’t have anything more to add to my application. Oh and my Math 2 and Lit scores were not great (650ish)
I submitted my Common App on Tuesday night, about 48 hours ago. I am assuming there will be a delay with the distribution of portal logins due to all the last minute applications. I hope I get an email tomorrow!
Thankfully I received an email from the financial aid office today reminding me to complete the IDOC. I had no idea that existed. I just finished uploading the documents. IDOC and CSS have been crashing a lot so I think I will be fine because of the grace period.
What is the “first wave of likely letters?” Are the letters all of those “offer from X University” posts that athletes make on social media? I didn’t know Ivy Leagues sent them so early. I assumed it happened in spring.
Hey @dietcig because you did early action you will end up finding out about Harvard December 12th at 5:00pm. THey release likely letters, some rejections, and alot of deferrals. IDOC and CSS have been down in my neighborhood but I hope to complete it today. Also you can inform the application reviewer why you did not submit a second subject test through the optional supplemental material I think although I recommend still sending two SAT Subject scores like I ended up sending my chem one which was a 680 because I had math 2 at a 790.
Also @VeritasFicta
1.Taking Math 1 does not look as good as Math 2 apparently in the eyes of colleges but if you feel you can get a perfect score on it perhaps do it I guess.
2. I am unsure how you can notify Harvard of the change. You could probably add a note somewhere in your application or just send whichever math subject test you decide
3.You can send all SAT scores after you take the test because you get application fee waivers from SAT itself. So you can end up sending Math 1 through this method.
I’m not too sure about math one being seen as less by colleges, due to the curve, but my primary concern is having said on the common application that I submitted to Harvard that I would be taking math two and in fact submitting math one.
Got my login yesterday and logged in. Very excited and nervous. I did the supplemental essay and liked it. I’m anxious about getting a call for the interview. yikes Good luck to everyone!
@MayBIvyMomma – You are posting on both Princeton and Harvard SCEA threads. DId you apply to both schools EA?
Let’s clear something up first. No AO is looking at the curve. They may be aware of it, but they are not crossreferencing percentile charts.
Secondly, it’s not that M1 is seen as being less to colleges per se. It’s just that there is an expectation, IMO, that is the applicant has taken precalc, then the applicant should take M2. Taking M1 with a precalc background is taking the easy way out, and I think AO’s will think that as well.
If you still decide to take M1, there is no need to notify Harvard. They will see the change when they get the score report. I am assuming that when you were thinking of notifying Harvard you were not going to include an explanation, since there is really to valid reason that they would accept.
Finally, when you take the Subject Tests, you can take whichever subjects you want, in whatever order (except for the FL listening exams, which must be taken first) regardless of what you originally signed up for. You just bubble in the test you are taking on the answer sheet.
Short answer. At Harvard, recruited athletes will receive Likely Letters in the Fall. No other applicant will receive one in the SCEA round.
Yeah, I’m rather curious about that as well. One cannot apply to 2 SCEA schools. All your postings are now suspect since you seem to be a student in some posts and a parent in others.
Ummm when I logged onto the applicant status portal it says that my application was submitted: 11/02/2017?
Im on the West Coast so I guess my application was turned in Nov 2nd EST…
On the checklist, they say that they received everything from me (except the midyear report).
Anyone else have the same problem?
Harvard is on the East Coast, obviously, so the time stamp will be based on EST. I would not overthink it - there is no issue.
@dietcig The recruited athletes, in order for them to be considered for the first “wave of” Likely Letter, had to submit a completed application on Sept 15, which includes LoR and all board scores. First LL meeting was Sept 26 and the first LL was sent Oct 1.
