Question for y’all: would y’all rather get straight up denied or deferred? I’m kinda leaning towards denied so that way I wouldn’t have to stress about it any more.
@cgwade900 Straight up denied. I don’t want to be on the hook. Then again, because it is so hard for deferred to get in, I would call deferred equivalent to denied for me personally.
It depends, did you ask him good questions/have a conversation after those questions?
@cgwade900 I’m gonna assume denial if I get deferred. Very few people get in after being deferred and I don’t see why I would be selected in the regular round if I were deferred early in the first place.
I think I did. Problem is, they were like poli sci and I am interested in medicine, so they didn’t know too much about med school admissions through houses and stuff like that. I also asked about campus culture too and how Harvard supports students.
@Tomas1355 You surely will get in. And if you don’t, it’s Harvard’s loss (Trust me!)
@habitualnerd I consider that weird, but not necessarily bad. Perhaps he wanted to put you a little out of your comfort zone and see how you did ;). No worries, I would say.
@cgwade900 Deferred, definitely. I’d still have a chance, at least. Plus, Harvard will be admitting fewer people this year and plans on taking some off the waitlist… I’d rather still have a slim chance than having none, although I wouldn’t mind if my extended family would stop asking me about my applications lol
Those seem pretty good; were there any moments of awkward silence
Mine was cool; I asked some good questions and we eventually ended up on a tangent about Star Wars lol
Nah. I am a big speech and debater, so I am good at talking on the fly, and I know how to keep talking and talking. We maxed out our time and everything. I just felt cornered and surprised with the interview, and was worried maybe they thought my questions lacked depth and was wondering how much that would hurt me. IDK - we will see, I guess.
I fully expect to be realistically denied and at best deferred, as I am not some academic ‘superstar’ and what might make me attractive is very strange and unusual (in a good way, I hope!)
@nekanorneki I’ll surely get in? Thanks for the kind words I certainly hope so, but I know the chances are slim, very slim…
@habitualnerd What events do you do? Are you more of a speechie or a debater
Anyone else feel strangely calm? The calm before the storm, eh?
Speechie, lol. Extemp, impromptu, public forum, oratory, Lincoln Douglas all fall to me. Extemp <3!!! the ultimate impromptu right there. It’s a huge love-hate relationship, but it teaches you how to talk on the go. Don’t choke, just keep going.
HBU
Mostly Interp (DI, Prose, POI, Poetry), tried my hand at extemp in 9th grade but failed miserably lol. I’m still thinking about whether or not I’ll go to the Harvard tournament if I get rejected
Ah, you’re in Drama. Yeah, I’m not even allowed to touch that stuff. Gotta focus on qual’ing in the categories which don’t require emotion/acting skills. I came from MUN so I often talk politics very stiffly and seriously. Great for Extemp, lincoln douglas. etc, not so much for Oral Interp.
I’m wishing everyone the best of luck!
@thebestfitforme You too!
It’s so weird to imagine that in a few days, or perhaps a week, this thread won’t be as active, if it’ll be active at all…
@Edwardo77 no I’m a Palestinian citizen in Palestine
I’m watching Mary Poppins to calm myself down
