Harvard University Class of 2023 SCEA Applicants

@AnnaNura I submitted my application on Oct. 30th, got contacted on Nov. 5th and had my interview on Nov.11. But I also live in Cambridge so there are a lot of alumni interviewers there.

I really don’t think that for the majority of applicants they have enough time to look through applications, maybe just skim them. They probably just have the data for when they need it and if after they read an app and they want to see an interview they will send it.

@x2019x what’s your take on the IVP system?

@skieurope is it too early to expect interview contact for RD? My son has a friend who submitted his app in mid October for RD and hasn’t been contacted yet. Is it safe to say perhaps they are still focused on getting EA interviews completed?

@annanura I submitted my application on October 16 and received a call like 3 days later. He said I was his first call but I’m not sure that matters ??‍♀️. I had my interview on November 2

I’ve long ago filed that under “It is what it is.” IMO, IVP1 is not a bad thing, but you should read nothing else into it. Admissions decisions require input from multiple people; I do not believe that a particular application’s IVP code is done by more than one person. Correlation does not imply causation

Again, many people here are spending too much time focusing in on/trying to interpret nuances that will never be revealed. It’s a fun party game, but Netflix would be more productive.

Everyone excited? Like two and a half weeks left

It’s more like a mix of nervous energy and excessive hoping

Yes

My daughter goes to a boarding school in New England. She had her interview done at the end of October bc the interviewer came to their campus for interviews. Last week before Thanksgiving the admission person contacted the school for Fall Semester transcript. I thought for RSEA application the mid year report is not requried. Not sure it is a good sign or just lacking of information.

@lilyfullford yes my son is excited for an answer either way…
Everyone on here should be proud of yourselves. Having the grades, scores and confidence to apply to a school like Harvard is an accomplishment in itself. As the decisions come in just remember that you will be successful regardless of where you start the journey to that success! My husband turned down med school at some of the top schools in the nation and opted to go to a state school for free. He came out with zero debt and is one of the most renowned in the country in his field. It all works out.

@nrsebayer my parents are certainly hoping I choose a state school, especially with a twin sister also loving some expensive schools

@lilyfullford we’ve also had that conversation here many times…we parents have to point out practicality too:)

@lilyfullford @nrsebayer Well, Harvard says 90% of the students pay the same as in state schools. I couldn’t figure out how that could work for us though

@rêveuse Honestly I had not heard of the system before this thread (which is why being a part of this community is so great!!) and I don’t think I have enough information to have any thoughts on it, I don’t know if it is more than just a way to organize applicants for interviews without too much meaning into what their final decision is, if that makes sense.

@lilyfullford us either-we’re in the 10% unfortunately. Or fuortunafy depending on how you look at I guess. I do love that qualified candidates can go to Harvard regardless of financial resources?

@x2019x yeah i get you! I don’t know what to make of it either to be honest

@Dataminer meant to tag you in my above response

Hey. I also applied to Harvard REA. I have just been notified by my counselor the regional admission representative for Harvard wants a copy of my progress report this week. Is this normal? I wasnt expecting to have to submit one as part of my application.

@CoolGuyIzzy which state are you from?

@CoolGuyIzzy are you an international student?
