Harvard University Class of 2023 SCEA Applicants

@foolgirl I’ll also add that I see by your prior posts that these grades were requested before TG, so probably during regional reads. I suppose that bc they read “by school” and the fact that you are in a BS with probably a lot of apps, I would venture to guess that your Senior grades are being compared to your cohorts. That is just my opinion, please don’t take it as fact.

from my understanding, a spike is multiple accomplishments/significant commitment in a single area or discipline, not how much any one thing “spikes” your chances so to speak

@Dataminer, hahaha I don’t know about the referee thing. It’s long shot. The football season just ended for his team so hopefully he can focus on applying for the other schools while waiting for DEC 13

@cmc1999 Thanks! It’s getting so nervous. Not sure other applicants have this kind of internal academic work uploaded.

@foolgirl is there anything red-flaggy on your transcript that would make them want to see your current grades? IE-a lower grade in a subject, a low SAT/AP score? Also, what did you put on the common app as your preferred major? If stem, then they may want to see current stem grades

@dreamthief001 yeah, I was just wondering whether AJAS would be a significant accomplishment

@cmc1999 No red flag, straight A and A+ since 9th Grade. ACT 36, almost perfect Sat sub, all A or A+ for the fall semester ( grades submitted per request). Not a Stem track.

I wouldn’t worry. It’s probably a positive.

@AnnaNura I wouldn’t consider AJAS as much significant. As I counted earlier, there are 25 Intel ISEF prize winners. There are also 10 Regeneron ones with prize of $40k to 250K (and 30 more of $2000 each). Olympiads have whole lot more finalists and team members, all specializing in a STEM discipline where they beat out everyone else. STEM field is very crowded with a lot of talents. This is not counting girls specific competitions.

What are the most prestigious writing/English contests?

@foolgirl My guess is your daughter is being directly compared with someone else from her school. May be the additional information will help. I think it is a good sign.

I agree with what you were told - don’t worry about it. @foolgirl

I wonder if Adcom can tell if an application is packaged by consultants versus done by kids themselves.

@cmc1999 @qwerty66 @skieurope Thank you guys!

@shehar17 scholastic and youngarts

@Dataminer The admissions Dean mentioned somewhere they look for internal consistency while reviewing essays. They evaluate essays in the context of students’ transcripts, extracurriculars, comments from teachers etc,.

Most likely yes - I think it all has to do with the details included, style of writing, etc. In most cases you can just tell when something has been falsified. You never know though.

With 40K applications per year and AOs who did not just fall off the turnip truck, I think it’s safe to assume that they can see spot an essay not written by a 17 y/o from a mile away.

@skieurope @karyotype @qwerty66 Thanks for the response. That’s really assuring.

My interviewer told me that admissions told her that I’m the only Harvard SCEA applicant in my county. Could that potentially help me?
