Harvard University Class of 2023 SCEA Applicants

@oRcHiD4 potentially, but it all comes down to the strength of your application. it most definitely won’t hurt you though!

@oRcHiD4 yeah i’d say it definitely could

@skieurope Can you look at post 612 and give your opinion?

@foolgirl the exact same thing happened to me; don’t really know what’s happening, but im gonna call and ask

@Euclid314 Science is the least important section of ACT, and your composite is fine

@foolgirl good 2know its not just me bcs i was freaking out thinking i had accidentally did something in my sleep lol

@skieurope Thanks for your advice! I hope I got past the subcommittee, so they can see the better score.

@pickitup Good to know my daughter is not the only one. Did you call them? Were you requested by AO for grades update?

@Amyd19 Yes, despite being heavily involved in multiple sports, having two world-class spikes, good-great essays/rec letters, university-level research, and perfect grades and scores, I have not gotten an interview either. I live in a suburban/rural area.

@bruhinterviewme That sounds indeed odd!

@hgrad2010 @skieurope Any news about the committee meetings? did it happen this week? does it complete next week?

@bruhinterviewme Do you mind giving us a hint what your world-class spikes were? I bet most of us barely managed one spike, let alone a world-class one.

@bruhinterviewme do you know if other people in your area have gotten interviews

Talking about world-class spike, Davidson Fellows definitely belong there. Among this year’s Fellows, four of 10 18-year-olds went to Harvard (MIT, Yale , Duke, Stanford, and Cornell made up the other). https://www.davidsongifted.org/Fellows-Scholarship/2018-Davidson-Fellows

Another spike is Cameron Impact Scholarships. Among this year’s 15 scholars, 6 went to Harvard, 5 went to Stanford… https://www.bryancameroneducationfoundation.org/cameron-impact-scholars/directory/class-of-2018

the scholarship is for graduating seniors, so it wouldn’t have been a spike in their admissions. what more likely happened is that all the remarkable things they did to be awarded the scholarship were also remarkable enough to get them into those schools. they were exceptional

Better spikes would be T3 Summer Programs, being RSI, MITES, and TASP. Those occur before EA and have INSANE matriculation rates to top colleges. RSI students have amazing chances at every T20, better than average chances for a T5. MITES students have great chances at Harvard and MIT. And TASP is the darling for liberal-arts schools like Yale, Dartmouth, and Brown.

Of Regeneron’s top 10 students this year, at least 3 went to Harvard, 2 to Stanford, 1 to Princeton, and 2 to MIT including David Wu who was also a Davidson Fellow. https://student.societyforscience.org/regeneron-sts-2018-top-ten. Besides top 10, all these scholarships have many finalists, and some of them will inevitably compete for a spot at Harvard.

@skieurope Does Harvard take into account the region where international applicants are from? Do applicants from regions with lower representation have an edge?

IMO, no. Harvard has enough applicants that it does not need to take an applicant for Sierra Leone simply to say that one is attending.
