Harvard University Class of 2023 SCEA Applicants

@bruhinterviewme I would like to ask if you have your transcript request? I still haven’t got one and I am afraid that it was a negative sign. Yet I have thought that Harvard may know I haven’t had my mid year report yet as I don’t study the US curriculum, so I cannot receive the request.

Did anyone have a document uploaded? Mine was classified as academic work, so I’m wondering whether it’s a transcript from my school, or a professor has reviewed my research. I’m international though, so we have no new grades from this semester. Do you lot have any idea what this could be?

@MaybeHarvard2022 how are you liking Harvard?

I recently received an athletic award for football and was just nominated for a national scholar-athlete award. Is it worth updating my application with that information or is it probably too late?

I’m going live on Instagram to open my Harvard decision—should be interesting

I’ve been keeping up with this thread for a while now and wanted to know what you guys thought of my chances for admission.

ACT:30 (ik it’s super low)
SAT:1390 (superstore)
EC: president of National honor society, secretary/founder of medical club, Vice President of student council (9th grade), shadowed a local doctor, volunteer at a hospital
Rank: 1/170 GPA: not sure how to calculate this, but my lowest grade ever was one 97
APs: Spanish: 3, currently in Calc AB
Other classes: my high school doesn’t have many AP classes because the majority of classes we take with a college so that we can get an associates degree when we graduate high school.

@bruhinterviewme has me confused - they said “According to a San Fran guidance counselor, they drastically cut the number of interviewers this year so that the only ones left are those trained by the admissions office. Which also means interviews bear much more weight since they’re more normalized. (No more rogue interviewers who emphatically swoon over every single student who charms them.)”

So are they only interviewing qualified applicants this year?

I wanted to add to my previous post my saying that I am an Asian immigrant, first-generation, low-income student. Also, I had an interview and my interviewer seemed to really enjoy our conversation and at the end said that he was positive I would be hearing good news. (He didn’t know my test scores though lol.)

@isicim012 When did they upload the document to your portal? My daughter has one uploaded on Nov 29.

@rockstar4592 It really depends on your geography and your essays. I know an asian guy who got into harvard early last year with 1360 SAT. he had great essays and ECs tho

There’s going to be an instagram livestream today at 6pm EST. It’ll be run by Harvard students.

@bruhinterviewme Does it matter then that I still haven’t received an interview? I live in Lebanon and I consider myself to have a strong application compared to my region.

@nijusohc
I’m a boy from a suburban city in Texas (sort of near austin). I wouldn’t say my essays were jaw dropping good, but they were pretty meaningful. I wrote about tutoring two kids whose father died. Also, for the questions about work experience and intellectual activities, I didn’t realize you were supposed to actually respond to those questions meaningfully and just listed the intellectual activities I did and for the work experience, I just wrote what my responsibilities at my sandwich shop were instead of making it meaningful. Do you guys think that’ll deter from my application?

@rockstar4592 If the rest of your application is solid, it might balance out. However, I think you are at a disadvantage with essays because many applicants made them really really meaningful…Do you have any ECs that are unique because the ones on the list you provided are super common

I’m a Gates Scholarship Semifinalist. Should I update Harvard?

@arnkim your call, but so many people are semi finalists, including me

Are you planning to? I don’t think it’ll really change much. @nijusohc

@rockstar4592 did you do anything super unique? ur scores are fine, you shouldn’t worry bc they accept ppl with low sat/act scores. but your essays + what you did is gonna be ur saving grace at this point. keep in mind A LOT of people wrote very very meaningful essays (at least ppl who applied to actually try to get in and not as a joke). good luck, don’t stress too much

@reedmroue I don’t know anything about that, sorry.

@skirugby They are under no obligation to interview any ol’ Joe who hands in an application. If your chances of getting in are a joke, they probably won’t grant you an interview. That being said, they do interview people who fall beneath their threshold to give them the benefit of the doubt. The point I made was simply that the interviewers this year are fewer and better-trained. (Based on what my mom’s close friend, a well-connected guidance counselor at a prestigious private school, told her.)

I myself am quite confused about the process, actually. Read my username.

But there are only about 2000 Semifinalists chosen out of like 100k original applicants, so I think it might be a worthy update
