Harvard University Class of 2023 SCEA Applicants

@idkhelp you’ll do amazing!! don’t worry dude!! haha I’m so stressed too… so many eyes watching me, and people are out here making bets on whether or not ill get in… and if I dont, ppl are going to completely crap talk me saying “oh shes valedictorian but cant get into harvard” (which is stupid bc you dont get into harvard for being valedictorian LOL). I just want to get in bc I love the school & it’ll be perfect timing for the (hopefully) good news to be a gift for my grandfather’s birthday

Fingers crossed everyone! Honestly I’d love to just hibernate until the 13th

Just a reminder that getting into H isn’t everything to life, its not the secret sauce (as much as we want to believe it is) to success. If any college denies you admissions on an application that is full of things that you’ve done with passion and have loved, thats their fault and no matter what wherever you go if you work with passion you will find success! I know people have said this before and it’s hard to take to heart, I feel that 10/10, but just realize that a campus is more than the location and the prestige, it’s about the people you choose to surround yourself with and your outlook on it!

@lilyfullford I’m definitely pulling for you both! My son hasn’t even checked his email today? he has basically checked out until decision day haha. He has had a charmed life always succeeding but he started out his senior year being diagnosed with mono. Moved from 1st varsity boat in rowing to 4th after missing a month of practice per doctors orders. Hospitalized briefly. Forced himself to go to school sick and kept his grades at a steady 98%. He’s had several other unusual hardships/setbacks this year so I’m really hoping he gets good news next week!

@idkhelp preach…so true

You guys are really brave for telling people you are applying at school–I could never do that. I have a 1600 on my SAT so I know people would expect me to get in, even though scores are not everything, and my school’s valedictorian and all the most competitive applicants applied REA to H.

People at my school can be toxic and telling people I applied means that when I get deferred–because I’ve accepted that I’m not getting in–I’ll have to face them and they will be super-vindictive behind my back. I didn’t want the added social stress of toxic classmates in addition to the disappointment of deferral/rejection so I’ve kept it a secret thus far and only told my best friend.

I do feel kind of bad though, about not telling anyone. Almost like I should have?

Also, unrelated, but would it kill Harvard to let us know when judgment day is? The suspense is killing me.

@ohboy234 it’s not that I wanted to, unfortunately lol. people find out one way or another so if I straight up lie to someones face abt not applying, they’re gonna call me a snake and everything lol. and yes, I am scared about being deferred bc so many people are going to completely crap talk me rip. tbh I don’t think its bad to not tell anyone, especially if your student class is very toxic like you mentioned. good luck to you!! no matter what, you’re who you make yourself to be. you don’t need harvard to define you (although it would be nice to get in haha). let’s knock on wood!

@ohboy234 stay positive. Sounds like you have a great shot for admittance. Vindictive people typically have their own issues so I wouldn’t worry about what they think of you but rather what they think of themselves. Good luck to you and keep your head up!

Yeah @ohboy234 I didn’t really want to tell anyone but it got announced by mistake in front of our WHOLE dance department, and being Val of a c’o 900+ word spreads like wildfire. Don’t feel bad about your decision, I think it’s really smart because now when I get deferred I’m going to feel like I’m letting my teachers and friends down(which I know I’m not doing my brain just convinces me that)

@idkhelp your class is HUGE! My graduating class is 179 from three towns

@lilyfullford dang I can’t imagine being with the same classmates for 4 years omg… my graduating class is about 900 so there’s always someone new to talk to haha

My son didn’t tell anyone where he was applying. Some people didn’t find out he got in until he was introduced as a valedictorian (class of about 1,000) on stage during graduation.

@nrsebayer Did your friend in the full committee say if their meetings are over?

^^!!

They will likely finish in full committee tomorrow according to the interviewer handbook released as a part of the Harvard Admissions trial.

‘Full Committee generally meets during the first week of December for Early Action candidates’

Have you guys gone to the admitted students page on The HARVARD website and tried to log in? Does it go through to somewhere for you guys?

@yeet123 I just logs me in and then redirects me to the admissions page

I was watching this video of an ivy league student reviewing their applicant file and apparently ivy leagues take into account the difficulty of your high school on your application? Can anyone confirm this?

@lugdunensis that’s what the regional admissions officer for harvard told me. they take into consideration the level of difficulty of your high school. they consider so many factors, such as how many APs your school offers, what the highest GPA has been, if your school offers IB classes, etc. etc.

@lugdunensis Yeah, they definitely take the difficulty of your school into account. I was talking to an admission officer over the summer and he told me that there are different dockets labeled a-z that are created based on geographic area and each admission officer is in charge of a docket. These admission officers know the region very well and can almost talk about the difficulty of each school individually (they read the school profile every year). Plus, the admission officer in charge of your docket will probably be the one touring it. *they also have a list of previous students from your school that have gotten into Harvard, how well they did at Harvard, etc.
