Harvard University Class of 2023 SCEA Applicants

I heard 1-4 is accurate and short time to first interview is a positive

15 minutes is early enough.

how did everyone’s interview go?

I think it went well! How about you @NoNameGang?

Hi, today I found out I made it to NAfME All Eastern Honors Wind Ensemble on my instrument. Music is a major part of my application/major and I wanted to know the best way to update this info on my EA application

scratch that, I see there is a place on my app to send in miscellaneous updates, thanks anyway

Where is the miscellanous updates section?

is there a way to make sure my supplemental essay was received by Harvard? I checked my applicant status portal and everything is submitted but there’s not an option to see if your supplemental essay was received. also, am I supposed to sign up for an interview or do I wait to be contacted?

@shekw19 you should be able to see if your supplemental essay was submitted through the common app under the Harvard tab for additional writing. The common app should have sent a confirmation email after that specific part was submitted. And if you are getting an interview you will get an email from your specific interviewer, so wait to be contacted!

@x2019x thank you!

Hey everyone, I’m an EA applicant who submitted on 11/1, and I noticed a weird problem today. I logged into my Harvard Applicant Portal today and noticed that it says I have uploaded two supplementary materials, one on 11/5, and one on 11/12. However, I have not uploaded any materials. I didn’t check the box on the Common App saying that I wanted to, and I haven’t uploaded any since submitting my application and getting the applicant portal. I received my portal login on 11/3, immediately logged in and changed my password, and I literally don’t think I’ve even logged in again since then. Has anyone else had this problem? Either with Harvard or another school? And does anyone know if there is any logical explanation? I’m planning on calling Harvard tomorrow, but it’s kind of tricky because I get back from school right when their office closes (because of a time difference), and I wanted to know if anyone else had this issue before I freaked out on the admissions office.

did you have transcripts from other schools or anything that would be sent not through your schools GC?

@shehar17 Yeah! I want to study Biology, and she made her own concentration with Biology in it, but my friend got an interview, and the interviewer had a completely different major. It depends on which alum Harvard requests for you.

@logosoverpathosm No, because you will be contacted on an interview depending on how strong the alumni network is in your area.If the community isn’t large in your area, you probably won’t get one :/. My uncle is best friends with a Dean at Harvard and that’s what he told us.

Does anyone have any idea what the exact date for decisions is?

They have not announced it yet.

@logosoverpathosm should be around Dec 11-15. Last year’s decisions rolled out on Dec 11 & 12.

@drumminggeek87 Idk if you’ve already called, but I wouldn’t worry too much - I think the dates change when the admissions officers verify the materials. One of my dates changed from 10/20 to 11/3 when they updated a test score (they put a score under the wrong subject test and fixed accordingly) without any input from me

Also, CSS profile lists the financial award letter date for harvard as the 13th, so I was assuming it was that Thursday…?

My son submitted his EA application on 10/23. He was contacted for an interview on 11/10 and has his interview at 5 pm today. We live in a mid sized midwestern city with several local alum interviewers. Stats: GPA 4.0 unweighted, ACT 35, SAT 1560, will graduate with 10 AP courses has scored 4-5 on all AP exams, National merit semi finalist, varsity rower in high school for the past 4 years, has interest and contact from Harvard rowing coach but not being recruited to row as they have saved all recruitment slots this year for international candidates. His intended major is physics which is why Harvard is his top choice. His interviewer graduated from Harvard business school so the major doesn’t seem to matter on who interviews you. His interviewer made him feel very comfortable on their phone conversation, told him how to dress, what to basically expect etc. They are meeting at the local Starbucks 5 minutes from our home. Per a friend who is also a local alum interviewer the interview IS required EA for admission-if no local alum in your area they will do a Skype or phone interview. He did not feel the amount of time that passes between applying and being contacted for an interview was relevant. Wish my son luck and best wishes to all of you as well!! The finish line is just around the corner!

i heard that a short time between application and interview just means one is likely on the special “ Dean’s List” for added attention but it is not an indication of likely acceptance.
