Harvard University Class of 2023 SCEA Applicants

Story Time

I’ve been playing violin for nearly 13 years now, so I’ve developed this weird callus that sort of pops out of the left side of my neck where I hold my violin when I play. I originally thought, “Wow, this is great. I’ve marked myself with my passion.” I was pretty wrong. It turns out, that mark very much resembles a hickey and is also conveniently placed on my neck, where most hickeys reside. So lots of people who are now close to me told me that they originally thought I had a hickey when they first met me, and obviously, concluded that I was some sort of playboy. My teacher even pulled me aside one day to tell me that I couldn’t be walking around with a hickey on my neck in public. So, I’m hoping my interviewer got the message that playing violin for a long time causes you to have that mark, or else she would’ve also noted that I had a hickey on my neck, much like the many others who have assumed the same. Oof.

lmao okay story time: I help my superintendent mentor some freshman and last week he asked the class what they learned about High school during the first quarter. This was right before the bell rings too. One of the kids raised his hand and said “High school is hell!” To the SUPERINTENDENT and the bell rang and all the freshman left while the sup just sat in his chair, wicked very shook

Wait 'til college kid. :slight_smile:

ok mine’s not as great as the last two, but

STORY TIME

in 10th grade honors lit we were reading winesburg ohio and I blanked out for a goooood 10 minutes while the class was reading. then the teacher asked me about a character and how I thought of him/his role as a grotesque. my friends next to me saw I was panicking bc I blanked out and took that wonderful opportunity to tell me that George, one of the main characters, is actually a dog !! so I confidently told my teacher I thought the dog was a cute addition to the book and now I cant even say hi to her in the hallways LOL

@lugdunensis Totally unrelated but is your username from the Roman province of Lugdunensis or the variety of staph? I’m guessing the former ahaha

Story time: this kid just sent an email out to my entire school with the link to his new SoundCloud rap… will attach link if you guys are interested hahah

Yay Story Time!

Last summer I was in the south visiting my cousins and we decided to go to this amusement park about 3 hours away in a different state. We were all ready to go and we packed into the car and went but after about 4 hours we were getting confused because we should have already gotten there. When the GPS said we finally arrived we get to this rickety old house in the middle of nowhere with very low cell service. We check the location again and we find that we put it in wrong, but we still thought we weren’t that far. Soooo wrong. We put in the correct address and it was another 3 hours away!! We FINALLY got to the amusement park and went on rides for about 2 hours but THEN we saw people leaving. The park that we had just gotten to was closing early because there was a huge storm coming. We ended up driving back eating pizza in the pouring rain. But still one of the best moments from my summer!

@lilyfullford LOL LINK IT
and another story time ig!!

a kid once emailed the entire school about a prom after party and said there would be alcohol at the party & lit music.
well
he sent it to EVERYONE at the school, including all the staff and the principal

Anyone have fun plans for the vacation or holidays? My vaca is only about a week, sooo short :frowning:

My parents are tufts and mit alumni and wanted me to apply to tufts more than anything… but Harvard had my heart!

@YvonneL I have always wanted to apply to Harvard but my dad wanted me to apply to Columbia early while my mom wanted Harvard, but he is fine with it now. I think my parents are nervous but they are trying not to show it to me, I haven’t told them when decisions are coming (tues or thurs) because I don’t want them to be there when I open it.

Do you think full committee was making decisions on the Sunday after Thanksgiving? Bc my slide room was viewed that day (and also on prior days, but the last time was the 24th)

(I meant the last time was the 25th/sunday)

@YvonnelL
my parents never really steered me towards any school lol but they did repeatedly told me the advantages of 7 year medical programs, especially Case Western’s. I just love Harvard for its support and collaborative environment as well as its location (I love Boston!!) minus the weather. also I think I look great in crimson ; )

@cmc1999 how do you know your slideroom was viewed that day?

youtube analytics

@cmc1999 Perhaps it was seen by a faculty member and then they wrote a report for the full committee.

@x2019x since I’m going to my home country for two months next summer, I’ll just be staying at home, baking treats for my dog & my fam while finishing my other college apps during winter break lol

@YvonneL I would say it was all my idea for all of the colleges I’ve applied to. I’m a first gen student so my dad knows almost nothing about college applications. I think sometimes he had more fun on college tours than I did lol!

@YvonneL
My parents let me decide what I wanted to do with my applications for the most part. Most of the schools I am applying to only have Early Decision; I wasn’t keen on signing my soul away to any school, so I wanted to EA. Only my top three schools (Harvard, University of Chicago, and MIT) had EA (and another one which was kind of safety) but I decided to go with Harvard (I liked it the most and I felt my application would be better received at Harvard than at UChicago or MIT). The problem is, even when I know how slim the odds are, my silly brain won’t stop hoping and daydreaming about getting in. Well, two to four days until we find out.
