Harvard University Class of 2023 SCEA Applicants

@cmc1999 My interviewer told me the report was due by the 25th, so there’s likely chance the sub-committees decide who goes to full around that time. Just my guess!

@ohboy234 yes youre right! My username is from the Roman province of lugdenensis in Gallia

Has anyone else held off on doing their homework until now because you’ve been so anxious about this upcoming week that you haven’t done anything other than going on this thread, reading about any updates on the decision date, watching videos on Harvard, etc? Because that’s totally me, and I’m finding it so hard to focus on school at this point

They viewed my slideroom pretty early.

@lugdunensis BIIIG mood

they viewed mine on the 12th, the 20th and the 25th. (both fully the first two times, and one partly on the 25th) :-?

Is slideroom for like videos and such?

yup

@cmc1999 how can you tell if it’s viewed?

@cmc1999 I submitted an arts portfolio but I can’t see if my videos have been viewed? You mentioned youtube? I uploaded my videos directly to slideroom

@cmc1999 What on your youtube analytics hinted to you that they had seen your slideroom? I don’t get the connection. Just curious because I want to know if they’ve seen mine as well

@YvonneL I visited schools to narrow down my insanely large list of schools to apply to. It really helped with the process because application fees are expensive and I originally had about 25 schools. I fell in love with Harvard while on a tour

@YvonneL My dad and I have talked extensively about this! I haven’t visited a lot of the schools on my list. I think visits only really help if you’re narrowing down your list like @lilyfullford but otherwise what’s the point? You can visit if you’re admitted to see if you’d like to go there because essentially, all college information sessions are the same:

Holistic review, scores and grades are not everything, we have 3 billion clubs on campus including a cheese club and a pigeon watching club and hey! if you don’t like a club, make your own, it’s easy! also, the faculty is super supportive and definitely go to office hours and you can study abroad!!

Seriously, that’s a summary of every college information session ever. Of course, they’re not all the same same, but that’s the gist of it. I went to the schools that are in my state, and maybe one or two that were out of state, but only because I was going to that area of the country anyway. We did not visit Harvard because: 1. online tour, 2. it’s a dream school so we didn’t think it was worth the money to fly out to Boston and visit because what if I don’t get in? and 3. ultimately, it’s a phenomenal school that I would probably apply to even if I didn’t love the campus or the dorms.

I knew the schools I wanted to apply to and I only visited the ones I could so maybe I could speak a little more personally about them in my “Why X School?” essays, but beyond that I don’t see a huge point in visiting before applying if you know you’re going to apply.

@YvonneL I only visited harvard and mit (since mit is literally right next to harvard) but honestly the look or environment of the school wasn’t the biggest motivator to apply for me. to be quite honest, I liked MIT’s campus a little better than Harvard’s (in terms of all the buildings’ exteriors and the dorms) but the campus itself wasn’t a factor when I built my college list. I don’t see any harm in visiting but also don’t see any harm in not visiting since if you are accepted, you’ll go to Visitas and the respective events for admitted students for other schools

Nope! That’s why I toured some places. I toured city schools, rural schools, and large/small schools to see what I liked. So I found out that liked city schools the best so I’m primarily applying to city schools now. I have like 11 colleges @YvonneL I’m also lucky enough to live in New England where a lot of prestigious colleges are so it’s been easier to tour places

and I haven’t really decided if I’m going to apply to another Ivy League. If I do it’ll be Columbia

I toured Columbia for a fly in and a few others

just out of curiosity, how many of you guys received letters/emails from Harvard? do they actually mean anything, or is that just harvard trying to recruit? i apologize in advance if this question was already asked. also, i understand that everyone is supposed to receive an interview, but my neighbor that applied last year never got called for one while i applied this year and got a call. does that mean anything?

Are defer → accepts virtually nonexistent?

@salamandereyes I’m not sure of the actual statistic, but I do know that it definitely does occur
