Both acceptances came unexpectedly, so I don't really have any preformed opinions or preferences. I'll be visiting both this month (along with Duke).

Any thoughts?

Thanks

the brown plme is ideal if you have interests outside medicine that you want to pursue at a high level, but are nonetheless committed to going to medical school. it allows you to explore you interests in the open curriculum without diverting energy towards competing for a med school slot (without this security, even the brightest students have to devote considerable time and effort to med school admissions)

harvard is a fantastic place but in my personal opinion, the undergrads i advise here get a raw deal. your pre-med recommendations will be written be people like me (med students living in your dorm as tutors) rather than full professors that know you well. instead of having your intellectual life revolve around your academic department of choice, it will be centered on your house-based extracurriculars. feel free to PM me if you have more questions and let me know if you are interested in meeting up when you come to visit harvard.

just remember that you'll be settling for a not so great med school if you choose plme.

the most important factor from a student perspective in evaluating a medical school is the "match list"--a list of where senior medical students are matched for residency

brown has one of the best in the country with several placements in competitive specialties at harvard, hopkins, stanford, UCSF, and other major medical centers
MD 2008 Match List

You also aren't bound to Brown Medical School if you do PLME.

"you'll be settling for a not so great med school if you choose plme."

How so? You are allowed to take the MCAT and apply to other med schools if you want to. They don't MAKE you stay at Brown.

Brown's medical school is definitely much better than a "not so great med school". You could probably get into any medical school you want if you do great at Harvard, but just like what some of the other posters have said, PLME allows you to pursue a lot of your interests outside of medicine.
