"HARVARD was it for me!" - Hagerstown Morning Herald

Local teen to enter Ivy League school

Sondra Lavigne screamed like a kid on Christmas when she read the e-mail from Harvard.

"I had to read it three times to make sure it was right," the Clear Spring High School senior said. "I still waited to see the mailed letter, just to be sure nothing went wrong."

But the letter she received in the mail said the same thing: Sondra was going to Harvard this fall.

With a little more than a month left until high school graduation, excitement is building for the whole family. But it is tinged with a bit of fear and uncertainty.

"I've come to terms with the fact that I might be a small fish in a big pond," Sondra said. "Here, I might be a big fish in a small pond...."

"Yale said 'no' because they must have known I got into Harvard," Sondra said. "Harvard was it for me."

That's kind of funny.

Tufts Syndrome "Ivy Style" to protect the yield rate?

Oh now for the next month or so we will be reading from all news outlets in podunk towns USA.

what the hell was the point of this article?

Local girl make good!

Its a point of pride for the local school system and a newsworthy event in the community when a kid gets into Harvard!

And she didn't even pay $30,000 to a Pricey College Counselor to help her get in.

Byerly's fix. 8.3x/day, 4700+ times since 10/04. HAHAHAHAHAVAHD! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHVAHD!!!!!! MUST HAHAH POST HAHAHAHVAHD#1!!!!!!!#1!#!1#!1#!HAHAHAHAH HARVARD#1!!!!

"...It's a little intimidating knowing that I'll be in class with these kids," Sondra said.

But in a way, Sondra said, she felt like she belonged there.

"I was just so surprised at how many kids from different backgrounds were there," she said.

"There were kids from farms in Kansas, kids from the Bronx. It was so diverse. For the most part, these kids were pretty normal..."

I feel kind of sad that I understood perfectly what you said...

So ... you're going out for football?

Well, keep in mind that she got rejected from Yale, so it's not as if she really has the option of not being happy that Harvard accepted her.

Umm...there are over 1,500 kids across the US who were just as thrilled to get emailed. care to make this a series?

We'll have a representative sample from across the nation most likely. Its often big news when a local kid is admitted to Harvard.

I know Sondra and she lurks around this board so I am surprised she hasn't rang in yet (come on you know you want to ;) )
Anyhow since she wont say it - I will, she was accepted to seven schools that she applied for;

= Amherst, Duke, W & M and John Hopkins (along with a couple "safe" schools) =

She really was leaning towards Duke until the reality (or the mere mystique) of Harvard hit her.

And yes, it is a big deal, at least to everyone who knows her.

Anyway you go GF!

Peace out
CC

I love how random CC lurkers pop out of nowhere and start posting when they hear something relevant to them. Beauty is the eye of the beholder I guess...;)

Well seeing I'm not going to Harvard (or any college for that matter) and the only reason I did post was I know Sondra it's understandable why I haven't posted before and why after this thread dies why you won't hear from me again:) hehe. Just supporting a friend, you can't put me down for that, and even if you can I really don't care ;)

Peace out
CC

Don't let these negative people get to you; the site is full of them. I think its great you know the girl and can viouch for the fact that she is quite talented. It was a very nice story.

No problem Byerly it don't bother me. :)
