Does 4 published research papers, 4 leadership (1 president, 1 president/cofounder, 2 casual leadership positions), ton of volunteering and other random clubs, justify a low SAT score (2000+)?

What’s your actual SAT score?

2070

Yes, if the research papers are any good.

Got me 1st place nationals in a research competition in chemistry? I entered Siemens + Intel already… still waiting for results. But do you think I haver to retake the SAT? I’m retaking it this october…

@Calvin689111 - I’m sure Harvard would feel more comfortable accepting you if you had a higher SAT score…this is very low for an unhooked Harvard student. Perhaps the research is your hook, but we can’t judge that. Have you taken the ACT or any SAT subject tests?

You should definitely review Harvard’s guidelines for submitting supplimental materials (<a href=“Application Requirements | Harvard”>https://college.harvard.edu/admissions/application-process/application-requirements/supplemental-application-materials). If your research is noteworthy (for a HS student), it can only strengthen your application to include it.

SAT Subject Tests:
Chem: 730
Math1/2: 800

do I submit only 1 paper or all 4?

I question how you have four published research papers but a subpar SAT score. Were you the primary author? And were these published in reputable journals?

@BldrDad I was actually able to bring my SAT score up to a 2110, and just recently calculated my GPA was 3.85 ish. Is that “average” according to Harvard?

That’s below average for Harvard (average is like a 3.9+). How’s your essay?

Is 3.85 unweighted? Even if it is unweighted, it is still below average. Any unweighted GPA below 4.0 is below average for Harvard simply because most students with a 4.0 unweighted GPA are rejected.

Where did you publish your research papers? If you published them in Nature or Science, they may help. If not, they will not make up for your below Harvard average stats. Also, If you do not win Siemens or Intel, you will lack prestigious awards. The only student from my high school who I know was accepted by Harvard was in Intel STS top 10.

4.0 UW students get rejected because they don’t have a strong course rigor. There’s a difference between 3.85 UW and 4.0 UW, when talking about the hardest classes.

Most colleges do a holistic review so a 3.84 UW GPA is fine.

The average SAT was around 2250.

@Hawkace
That would be the case for less selective schools. However, Harvard is the most selective school in the nation. Almost everyone who applies to Harvard probably has taken many AP/IB classes. Most students with 4.0 unweighted and 4.5+ weighted (in addition to excellent test scores and unique extracurriculars) are rejected by Harvard.

I was a regional finalist for Siemens + Did sigma xi (1st place nationals)

3.85 is unweighted

@Mangiafuoco

H Index of the journals were: 169, 69.
