Hi, Asian female. Applied RD to Harvard, Princeton, MIT, Columbia, UPenn. ACT 35, UW GPA 3.82, SAT II Calc BC(790), Chem (760), Bio(780). Took 12 APs, sophomore year had couple Bs and a C due to personnel problems. Rigorous magnet school . Debates nationally,ISEF finalist, president of a club, volunteer … Do I have any chance?
Everything looks amazing EC and SAT wise. I’m more worried about your essays than your grades, since your writing seems a bit perfunctory. Maybe it’s just because it’s College Confidential.
Make sure you stressed fit in those essays, since they’re quite different schools.
thank you!
SAT II Calc BC(790)???
Do you mean Math Level 2?
@sperpa , it is Math level II.
Sorry about the mix up. My concern here is the C in my sophomore year in Chem.
Have you applied to any match or safety schools? Getting into any of the above colleges, even with perfect grades is tough. Even tougher for Asians. Sometimes you might catch a break, if you can explain your personal problems.
Your test scores and ECs look fine. However grades are the most important component of any college application. How do you rank among other students in your high school?
I am in top 10% in my class. But school is rigorous. Yes, I have already gotten in state schools.
You sure are qualified but all of these are ultra high reach for an Asian
-American applicant. You mentioned securing safety but you do need some good matches too, if deadlines haven’t passed add a couple.
What about affordability? All of these are very expensive and offer no merit scholarships. Unless you are wealthy, low EFC with high aid eligibility or have parents willing to make some serious sacrifices, none of these schools can be affordable.
No need to explain a C or a B from sophomore year, you have strong academics and they can see upward trajectory.
@CupCakeMuffins , yes I have applied schools including Vanderbilt, Hopkins, and a couple of small liberal arts colleges. UNC and U Chicago rejected. I know they are expensive. I am not super rich either.
You should be fine then. Best of luck!
I got an interview email from MIT EC today. Any comments? Advice?
