Harvard

Dear Mr. Evans,
Hi, this is --------. This may seem strange to you, but I am asking that when Harvard releases decisions for its waitlisted applicants, if you could please let me be rejected.
If this makes more sense, my mother is the one who has always wanted me to go to Harvard. While I know Harvard is an amazing, world-renowned institution that many people dream of going to, I am already in a school that I would rather go to. However, my mother feels that I need to go to Harvard because of its brand name, and of course had me stay on the waitlist and say that I would certainly attend if accepted.
I would really prefer that my mother believe that I did all I could to get in Harvard, but that I simply fell short. I would rather deal with her disappointment than go to a school for four years knowing that it was not truly my choice. I hope you can understand.

Sincerely,

This is my information, just to prove this is me. (I didn't want to use my other e-mail because my mother checks it.)

What are you asking?

pj2010, I totally agree with you. Please do not come to Harvard if you feel in any way that it is not the right school for you, because what if you come and become absolutely misery for the next four years? The choice of college to which you wish to attend is a decision that you must make on your own, not made by your parents (although they do get a certain say because they’re paying for it, after all). I’m sorry that your parents do not understand and are making you choose a school that you do not want to attend. Please do withdraw your application, because I’m sure there are countless students out there who would love to take your spot.

Actually, it may not matter whether you withdraw or not, because statistically speaking, the chance of being admitted from the waitlist if very slim in the first place. Anyway, I’m so extremely excited about attending Harvard next year, and I hope you’ll feel the same about whichever school you do choose to matriculate!
