I'm curious about it because someone told me that I would be eligible for significant merit aid there. I plugged my stats into their calculator and sure enough, I would be. I know absolutely nothing about the school and I'm in the process of exploring the website now.

Is it a bad school? Does anybody know ANYTHING about it?

It is located on the southern end of downtown Chicago, on Michigan Avenue. I think it has slowly changed from a school serving mostly non-traditional, commuter students to an urban U for residential students. Their performing arts and business admin schools have very good reputations. I heard they now have athletics and a campus in Schaumburg, but there is no way a student could take classes at both campuses. I also heard RU will be starting a college of pharmacy in a few years.

I know several kids who attend (or attended) Roosevelt for performing and fine arts degrees. From what I hear from them (and they may speak with a bias), the conservatory is excellent, the rest of the university is “OK.” Other than the fine arts kids downtown, I think it still is a majority commuter school.

There is a downtown highrise dorm that is shared by Roosevelt with DePaul, Columbia College, and perhaps another school. Seems like a great place to live.

Thanks for the info on campus life! Does anyone know anything about the academics? I’d be a polisci opportunity and I love the idea of being in the center of Chicago with an abundance of internship opportunities.

Also applying to DePaul but it may not be affordable.

I make no judgments, but I can present some facts that may interest you about Rosey.
Ave enrolled freshman has ACT of 22
Frosh and Soph req’d to live on campus
51% white
21% African American
3 most popular courses of study:
Buss. Mgmt, Psychology, and performing arts
foreign language not req’d

Eeks about the average ACT score! I suppose that’s why CC recommended it to me, I checked the box where I would be well above the average in order to be eligible for merit.

Is it a bad school? Is it the Roosevelt School of Arsonists? The Roosevelt school of blackmailers?
There is always debate on the % of importance of the school one graduates from as to how it relates to success. In fact, there is much debate just defining success.

But here are 2 quick examples of success in the workplace with
an undergrad degree:

Pres and Coo of Scotts Fertilizer Mark Baker is a grad of the U of Minn.
Denise Stump, Exec VP of H.R. at Scotts, graduated from the Ohio State U.
Neither attended the big names like Wharton, or Yale, or others.

Yes there are famous names that graduated from famous schools; there are also infamous names that graduated from famous schools. Look thoroughly at any school you consider.
