It’s an AA-Transfer degree. A bill was passed and went into effect last fall, SB 1440.

Basically, you complete all your general ed according to plan B or C and complete additional major courses on top of that. So far (and it depends on the school) they have plans for Communications, Psychology, Math, Sociology and I think English. They are trying include more majors, but they are having a hard time getting the CSU’s to agree to the curriculum.

With the AA-Transfer degree you are guaranteed a place at a local CSU, but not any specific one. So in other words if CSULB won’t take you and Fullerton won’t take you, then Dominguez Hills has to take you. Point is, you’re suppose to get a spot SOMEWHERE. Also, when applying for transfer, you are suppose to get a small GPA boost. I believe its only like 0.2 points, but that can make a huge difference! On top of that, they are suppose to give you additional consideration above regular transfer students. So if it’s down to you and someone else for one seat and have the same GPA, you have the degree and they don’t, you get in.

I’ll be getting my AA-Transfer degree this Spring. I get to participate in graduation. It’s a real AA degree. Now only if I could actually do anything with an AA in psychology :/.

An AA is pointless to get for us and irrelevant. an AA degree is only for the people who are stopping at junior college, or going to a trade school. Some jobs or trade schoos/certificates require an AA. If you are planning on getting your bachelors, than an AA is pointless. I never applied for an AA and was never told to apply for one since I was transferring. The university doesn’t ask you if you got an AA. it’s irrelevant.

I sent my transcripts on march 5th with rush delivery and it still says transcripts needed. And today was the deadline. I’m so worried now. Did anyone else with the March 23rd deadline see their status being updated?

ndirish, its not necessarily pointless. Having the AA-Transfer degree guarantees you a spot at a CSU campus as well as the fact they MUST give you consideration over all the other transfers for you major that do not have the degree. Maybe in the real world it doesn’t have a lot of value, but if it comes down to 2 people for the same job with the same qualifications, you have the AA and the other person doesn’t, it might be the edge you have. An AA shows you have math, English, and critical thinking skills. Most people don’t even get any kind of a degree. An AA is still better than those who don’t. You still accomplished something.

@keef1193. I called admissions yesterday because I was worried as well. They said it will take 2-3 weeks to update. They will go by the postmark date so if you sent it out on march 5th you’ll be okay. I sent mine out that day too and my status hasn’t been updated.

My status was updated today. But they only received one of my transcripts. The transcript of another college it still needed. Sent both of them at the same time.

Comphead: I think you have a chance of getting accepted. My sat score was really similar to yours but my GPA was higher. Do you live near csulb like in the service area? I know of other people waiting still and I think they are going to finish admissions by april so hopefully you’ll hear back soon!

I don’t mean to sound rude, but are you sure they wait-listed you? I don’t think CSULB has ever had a wait-list before. Correct me if I’m wrong though.
