Has anyone been accepted to URI yet?

Confusedmominma…Well, it is very hard to get more than three words out of him and we didn’t take an official tour because the students aren’t back yet and the school was closed today so we got a map and wandered around. He liked that it is a big campus that doesn’t feel big compared to Maine that feels more spread out. He liked the old buildings, the quad and the Ryan Center. We have looked at literally 19 schools and this is one of the few he got excited about. Sometimes it is just a feeling. My daughter goes to JMU and knew when she stepped on campus it was where she wanted to go. I have been waiting for him to find that school…hopefully this is it!

My D was accepted EA into Secondary Ed

ConfusedmominMA- I think we will have to go down in a week or two. My son was accepted but we haven’t visited either . We only live 2 hours away so it is not a big deal to take a drive.

NJmom44- Thanks for your son’s feedback. My S has U Maine at the top of his list ( also already accepted)… not sure it will change… but based on what you wrote I am thinking we need a visit.

Congrats to all who have been accepted

thatsmyboy - yes, we need to get down there too. Only about 2 hrs for us too, but also only about 30-35 min from my family’s beach house on the RI coast so we are very familiar with the area.

Just got accepted on ecampus!

Came home to find the big envelope in the mail box but no mention of money. Has anybody heard anything yet about money? will it hopefully come later in a separate letter? they did send a URI sticker though.

Nickle828 - congrats!

Confusedmom - we also received the letter and URI decal but no mention of money. i just spoke with an admissions counselor becuase my son literally missed it it by 2 points on his GPA. You would have received notificatoin in the acceptance letter if money was awarded. I was told that it was a very strong applicant pool this year and he didn’t meet all the criteria. I am so dissapointed. He told me to wait for the financial aid package which should be recevied in march or April before making any decisions. :(

Oh darn!!!

Had high hopes for money since the NPC indicated that we’d receive some!! Darn, darn, darn! Better go look through the envelope more thoroughly!

Ds received letter today with 10,000/year in Mechanical Engineering. Surprised because he received no merit from Umass or UNH. His top 3 choices are TOSU, JMU and Loyola Marland. Still waiting on merit from all 3. Good luck to everyone with their decisions. These decisions are much harder than when I went to college.

Forgot, UCONN is right up there also, but very hard to get in in-state. Keeping our fingers crossed.

Carj4kids - Congratulations on the merit $!! We are also waiting to hear from UConn. It is my DS’s top choice.

Has anyone heard anything about getting into URI’s Honors College?

Carj, my D is n her second year at JMU and loves it! She received the scholarship that JMU offers. It is not much, starts at $2,000 for first year and increases by $500 each year. But, their tuition is much lower than any of the other schools on your list. It is getting harder and harder to get into JMU. If he chooses it he will love it. The school spirit is amazing and there is such a great “vibe” on campus. Plus he will get a very good education! Good luck! Feel free to contact me with any questions.

@njmom…thank you. He loves JMU, we are going to visit again for Choices on 2/18. I can really see him at JMU. Unfortunately, Ohio State is his top, merit$$ at the end if the month will determine whether we can swing it. I have 3 more kids behind him and the whole process is daunting!

Accepted to the Pharmacy Program. I only received a merit scholarship of $2000 per year ($12,000 in total for the six years).

To answer an earlier open question regarding merit money, my son received the Centennial scholarship for $13,500/yr. He applied to Engineering, Undecided. Planning on visiting URI the end of this month. We were hoping for an invite to the Honors College. Not sure how the Honors College works at URI since all of the schools treat these programs differently it seems.

My D was accepted to URI a few years ago and did not receive Honors college informaton until April. I am not sure of the process has changed.

My S received his official letter yesterday. He was accepted into Animal Science major and received a $40,000 scholarship ( 10K / yr) … now we are definitely visiting!!

No mention of accepted students day in the packet. Does anyone know when it is?

thatsmyboy - Congratulations!! So exciting!! Found this on the website
