wouldn't that just suck?!
knowing that you're oh-so-close to all three of them...
what a waste

now watch that happen to me ;)

Not if the applicant expected to get rejected. :)

I actually know someone who was waitlisted at all 3 but luckily got off the Yale waitlist.

How easy is it to get off the waitlist??

happens all the time. in fact, in the 2012 harvard decisions thread, there was a person waitlisted by all HYPSM (post #96):

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/483555-official-harvard-2012-decisions-thread-7.html

Vortar…and that person looks to have ended up at U Penn…I think in Wharton. Nothing to sneeze at, but…had to be disappointing anyway (I looked to see his/her stats but never found them)

oh wow

I’d imagine if you are waitlisted, it’s very unlikely you’ll get in

I am just wondering how much of a chance you will get accepted if you get waitlisted?

I keep thinking…with admissions increasing EVERYWHERE EVERY year,

1.) Is it the mini baby boom? I’m sure it is, to SOME extent.
2.) Is it the better aid at top Ivies? Yes, people are still JUST hearing about this.
3.) Is it that MORE kids overall are going to college (not just increased population but an increase in high school seniors who feel they CAN/WANT TO/ARE ELIGIBLE FOR college). Probably. We’re trying very hard to give a decent education to everyone, and a Bachelor’s Degree today is about like a high school diploma…long long ago when I was a wee thing.
4.) Are kids applying to MORE schools? Yes, I’m guessing. The numbers sound that way. And THIS is where the hope lies. HYP et all will be cross admitting a lot of kids. So, if one makes the waitlist…they can HOPE there stands a chance.

On the flip side, SOME schools have had record acceptances lately (my D’s state Uni). So they can be expected to REDUCE acceptances overall, because SO many “extra” kids accepted their offers in the past few years. They’re sort of “full”.

Will the down economy mean that schools have cut back so much that they can’t effectively TEACH more students? And/or…do they care? The opposite…will they just want to squeeze one more full paying admit in to get some funds? And one more and one more?

Getting off the waitlist at each college depends on the year. I imagine getting off the waitlist at Harvard/Yale/Princeton/MIT/Stanford is never easy, but sometimes they only let ~10 people off and sometimes they let ~100 people off.

I have been waitlisted to all three schools: Harvard, Princeton, and Yale…a better position than I had expected to receive…idk what to think, though :/
