<p>Based on my kid’s experience, I would prioritize scholarship hunting time on schools that grant merit aid. For us, Fastweb was like trying to pay for college by redeeming box tops. It can be worthwhile, but you’re spending a lot of time sifting through it looking for awards that match you in terms of demographics, grades, region, etc. Many of them are only around for a year and most of them are for relatively small amounts. I wouldn’t say ‘don’t try it’, I would say ‘don’t make it your Plan A’. Plan A should always be a school that you can either afford without help or schools that provide you with enough aid to attend.</p>
