Has anyone heard from CMU pre-college yet?

K....I'm SO happy for your daughter! I am sure she'll have a great time and learn a lot. She is truly on her way. I just have this feeling that she is on a very positive path with her journey.

I have a niece applying to the program for acting. I'll let you know what develops.

I have a couple questions. What is the cost of the private voice lessons in the Pre-College program? I am trying to find that info in the website and can't find it. Do you recomend taking the private lessons? Thank you for the response.

As someone whose daughter went there last year, yes I recommend the private voice lessons. I'm sorry I can't remember the exact price -- maybe $60 (or more?) each.
The program was terrific last year. While we know people who did not take the private lessons, if you can swing it financially you should do it.

MotherMoo,

I have heard that last year they were around $500 for the hour lesson (it may have been $450)...my mind escapes me from time to time and around $250 for the 1/2 hour lessons. It may have gone up for this year and I am sure some of last year's attendees will chime in. I have heard from so many people that it is absolutely worth it. The letter says that all of that information gets sent out once they receive our deposit...so I can post when I find out more.

Susan, Thanks for the very sweet notes! She is definitely excited! Already planning how she is going to decorate her room!

Thank you kaysmom and nytheatermom. Also I am wondering if the kids receive feedback on their application, essay or resumes, or if they have a workshop on the admission process. The application looks like a good practice for the real college applications.

no feed back on the application because +CMU does not care about essays of the application when it comes to admission into t he college program. LOTS of feedback on how to prepare a theater resume and everything that has to do with the audition process.

Anyone going to CMU pre-college, feel free to email me any specific questions, or post them here.

Last year the acceptance letter had a link to a website with the summer "handbook." Not sure if the handbook from last year is still at that website. Go back on this thread, I think I posted the "old" link. It certainly contained the cost of the voice lessons.

Hi

Private voice lessons last year were $400 for an hour. They were more than worth it. My D went in as fairly inexperienced singer and the improvement she made was great. I think most of the other students she knew took the private voice lessons, even some of the acting students. Also, there is one class she took 3 days a week just on getting ready to audition and apply to colleges. Big help!

Thank you for the info skbmom. I hope my D get her recomendation letters soon. I has been 3 weeks since she asked for them. Hope she can still get in the program.

I am sure she can still get in! We chose the option of only getting the one recommendation from the guidance counselor instead of 2 teachers just to save time and the counselor was great and wrote one in a day. I hope for a speedy return of your recs!!

It is a good day today, well... almost. My D picked up her recommendations and we went to the post office to send the application package out. It is in the mail... Cross your fingers. Guess what? I just realized we didn't put the check in. I even had a checklist! We both went over the checklist. I'll call in the morning and see if there is a way to pay over the phone.

I found out last week that I got into Syracuse University's pre-college musical theatre program for the summer. I'm a high school sophomore. How many kids are accepted into this?

I also applied to Carnegie Mellon's pre-college musical theatre program, so I am also waiting on that. I'll update once I find out whether or not I am in.

LOL, we did a similiar thing. Loaded everything into the envelope after double checking the list. Next day, we realized that the PSAT scores were on the table and not in the envelope. We just sent those the following day via Express Mail. No problem was had.

I called CMU admissions this morning and told them about the missing check. They said it is common for applicants to send the application packages without the $$. The admission officer was very nice and took my credit card over the phone. I also checked to see if they had received the application and it was already there! We Expressed mail it yesterday about 3:45 PM.
Now, we just wait patiently for their response... Any guess on how long would it take to hear from them?

Mother Moo,

When I called a while back they told me the review the apps as they get them and then send out their letters on Mondays. I'm sure you will get it soon!

Did you send it certified return receipt or just express? I am going to the Post office with D's application today. Thanks to all of you I will try to remember the check, the scores etc... Another useful feature of cc for aging parents like me!

evasmom,
I think Express mail is sufficient. We are able to track the delivery via the USPS website.

Kaysmom,
Thank you for your support and especially for sharing your experience. I am so glad I found CC! I've learned so much in this board in the short time I have been part of it.

I just found out that I got into CMU's pre-college musical theatre program, and I will be attending it. I also got into Syracuse's program, but I feel as though I will excel at CMU.

Good for you Jessica! Hopefully you will have the chance to meet my d when you are there! Good luck to you!

what grade is your daughter currently in?

she is a junior
