Has anyone heard of UF's admissions becoming extremely difficult this year?

I talked to my GC today and she told me that this year’s admissions would be a lot harder because they wanted to be more recognized as a Public Ivy. Has anyone heard anything similar? She also told me that the average GPA for UF students was 3.4 unweighted, which I know is BS, so I’m not sure if what she said was true or not.

Has anyone actually spoken to the admissions office about this?

I haven’t heard anything, but I do wonder if they will experience a similar increase in number of applicants like Florida State did this fall. If that happens, it will automatically make admissions harder. I guess only time will tell!

There is some talk that UF over-enrolled students, last year, so they may compensate by enrolling fewer students, this year.

See this thread:

Either way, it has nothing to do with being a “public ivy”. It has to do with enrollment management. UF thinks they can handle X number of Freshman, each year, anything more and it starts to impact the Freshman experience and stress UF resources.

This is from a Gainesville Sun article from Feb. 2015…

“The Class of 2019 profile has an average GPA of 4.3, an average SAT score of 1,918 and an average ACT score of 29.”

Those are pretty strong stats, but remember, by definition half of the class had stats below those numbers!

Keep the faith!
