I have heard from many people, even my guidance counselor, that UF is difficult to get into. And I’ve heard so many stories that even people who have strong GPAs, test scores, and extra curriculars, they still don’t get in. But I have also been told from people that UF is not as hard to get into as people say it is.
I have done my research on UF about what they require and everything, but now I don’t know if I can even get in. I would really like to go there. I hear all these stories/rumors and I don’t know what to think anymore it kinda stresses me out. I even heard rumors that UF admissions is a “lottery” because of the many smart people, but few spots to be accepted.
I don’t even know.
If anyone could give me some input on what they know or have to say that would be great. Thank you so much.
The acceptance rate this year via the gainseville website was 44.3% and to add onto that florida students had an acceptance rate close to 50%. That doesn’t seem selective but most people who dont qualify for UF tend to not even apply in Florida. The average sat was 1918 act 29 and gpa 4.3 i saw your previous post and you really need to get your sat to a 1700 at least for a chance or 25+ act
Again, not the hardest school to get into but I also have heard and know of some kids who have amazing stats and get rejected. Tufts syndrome maybe? This girl at my school had a 32 act and a 4.5 uf gpa but still was rejected and I can only think it was her essays as my friend with a 4.3 uf gpa and a 24 act was accepted. Just be sure apply as if you were applying to harvard haha.
Yea I took the SAT again and im at 1500 now. Went up pretty high compared to my first score of 1250.
I’m gonna keep taking it and hopefully get up to 1900 - 2000. My weighted GPA is around 4.3 - 4.4 so I think I’m safe with that. Thank you for your input
UF uses holistic admissions. About 50% is based on GPA (most important), Class Rigor, essay and test scores (least important). The other 50% is based on your EC’s, leadership, volunteering, first generation, and work experience. This is why it can seem a bit random.
UF practices holistic admissions. Like many large flagship schools, they have to spread admissions throughout the state. If you come from a school or district with alot of strong applicants, your chances of getting in are worse that if you were from a weaker school or district with fewer applicants. Think of the same system that Texas uses, but not as codified.
The only way to find out for sure if you can get into UF is to apply.
One thing I want to add though is that of those accepted, 3,118 students were accepted into the PACE program, which despite any rational I’ve heard for it being good, is a largely undesirable program. It’s honestly almost a rejection with FSU, another very good school, just around the corner. There is even a pair of twins at my school who are heavily considering splitting apart because one got accepted regularly while the other only got into the PACE program. Therefore, if you subtract those PACE accepted students from the total accepted students, that acceptance rate is about 34.25%. Now UF is undoubtedly easier to get into than some tippity top privates, but don’t underestimate it’s application and it’s essays. Afterall, it’s arguably the best school in Florida so you also have to compete with some of those kids also applying to those tippity top privates who use it as a match and even a safety.
PACE seems like a way for legacies or those who desperately want to go to UF but cannot get into via the normal channels. It would not be a method I would accept, but some do. At least it is better than going the Santa Fe route.
