Any advice for talking to an interviewer that went to Duke’s business school only? I don’t want to make things awkward by asking him questions about undergrad that he wouldn’t know the answers to…

just had my interview. faltered on the “Tell me about yourself”… idk i asked her a bunch of questions but she thought they were forced when they rly weren’t :(

^ I did the same thing in another interview. It shouldn’t have, but the “tell me about yourself” question threw me off-guard… I was like, where in the world do I start?

And I’m also worried about my questions sounding forced for my Duke interview this week. Since my interviewer’s a Fuqua alum, I can’t really ask specific stuff about the undergrad experience. :(

Wow, filled out the interview request form and got contacted a couple hours later. We are meeting Wednesday evening. But what’s really amazing is that I work at Microsoft, and she works there too! So excited.

Didn’t get a call even though I submitted in mid-September :’-(… time to submit the request form. I hope that interviews aren’t based on merit and I wasn’t good enough of an applicant to be considered.

I turned my application in after the interview deadline but had my interview this past wednesday.
I hope it went well >.<

I had my interview today… I thought it went pretty terribly. My interviewer asked some unexpected questions and I fumbled around quite a bit. But he said he’d write me a positive evaluation for the interest I showed in Duke, so I guess I’m okay with it. At least I know that if I get rejected, it won’t be because of my supreme awkwardness. :)

Just thought I’d share my experience. Met interviewer in a cafe, no trick questions or even mildly difficult ones. She actually spent the majority of time trying to sell Duke to me and telling me of experiences and i just tried to speak as honestly as I could for the 30% of time that she asked me questions. Very casual and definitely sold Duke to me

I jacked up the whole thing (the interview), or at least I think I did. Interviewer didn’t really seem interested in my interests outside of academics and overused the word “like”. I wonder just how much weight is placed on interviews alone and if my rather stiff answers will dictate my future! I hope not…

^ I wouldn’t worry about it, interviews usually don’t hold enough weight to sway a decision. :)

My daughter had her interview this afternoon. She described it as a very relaxed conversation. The alum asked her about her interests and answered questions about the Duke experience.

Now we sit back and wait for December 15th…

Do any of you know if interviews are based off of merit? I submitted my entire application in September and never got an interview and I’m freaking out.

^Nope just location. Do you live in a random part of your state?

Yeah, I live in the Southern Tier of Western NY. So basically farmland in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully that’s the reason I never got a call nor email for an interview.

If you have people skills, don’t be afraid about the interview at all. At a top-tier school like Duke, students should have skills that take them beyond the textbook. An interview is a good way to judge that. In fact, it should probably have more weight in decisions than it does. Mine went very well. The woman was very nice, and I felt comfortable the entire time.

My alumnus was really nice too, I feel like the interview went really well.

I’m applying RD and I sent my apps in super early (the Common App, not the supplement). I had my interview last Friday and it went pretty well. Interviewer was very nice and had a pretty awesome background. :P

I applied to Duke super late, like new years eve late. Anyways, I just got contacted to do an alumni interview, but I submitted the supplement/application WAAAY after it was suggested (the website said to have the supplement in by December 10th). Has this happened to anyone else?

Well, I applied WAAAAY before it was suggested, like November 15th. And I still haven’t gotten contacted about an interview… So by now I’m just assuming that I’m not going to get one even though I live in a fairly large population area.

I submitted my supplement around November 12th and I haven’t received anything. My phone doesn’t have a voicemail function and I don’t answer calls from numbers I don’t know, so I hope I haven’t missed out. But even if that was the case, couldn’t they have also emailed me?
