So basically the assignments are as such:
Research Proposal: 10%
Annotated Bibliography: 25%
Research Paper: 55%
Class Participation: 10%

That's what it says on the syllabus. My question is, were your assignments only given letter grades(A, A-, B+ etc) or were your assignments actually given point value(I.E 9.2/10 for Research proposal, 51/55 for research paper) etc?

My TA gives letter grades only for papers, and she also showed me the grading system that they use. From the way she explained things, it seems as though the MAXIMUM TOTAL number of actual points you can get is 83.7 for the papers themselves(9.3 for an A on research proposal, 51.15 for A on research paper, 23.25/25 for A on Annotated Bib). But then, reading on, the maximum points you can get for class participation is 10 points, and overall, an A for that class would be 93 points. (did not see conversion for A+, don't think they give out A+s)

But if class participation = 10 points = 10%, that would mean the final score is based out of 100 possible points, and I do notice that 93% of research proposal is 9.3 etc. But, if assignments were graded solely using letter grades, then it does not make sense that you got an A for an assignment, but got 93% for that assignment instead of 100%, would it? Not to mention that A is the whole range of 93%-100%.

93/93.7 = 99.8%, and that changes a whole lot. 99.8% for an A?! Sorry for the long rambling, but does anyone understand my concerns?
