I received a solicitation from a company called "Student Backup" and was wondering if anybody has used or has heard of this company. Thanks.

I'm not sure if this is the company that came recommended by S's college with a special offer for $4/month automated backups. I threw away the letter when I got to the part that said it was only for Windows based PCs. Son has a Mac. But it looked like a very good backup solution at a reasonable cost and the student didn't have to do anything except leave the computer on and connected to the Internet overnight. Backups were automatic. I liked the fact that the college endorsed it, too.

I went searching for a similar program for Macs and found www.mozy.com. I need to research it a little more, but they have a free backup with a limit of 2 GB ($4.95 per month backs up everything)!.

My husband backs up his laptop every night onto a portable hard drive. Both my kids have a 120 GB portable HD as well as a flash drive. Of course, have these items and using them all the time is something my daughter hasn't really seen the importance of! Her school actually has a back up for the students to use, although I have no idea how it works other than it doesn't cost me extra :-)
