I understand Barnard’s acceptance rate has drastically lowered in the past few years, but I wonder if the culture there has shifted as well. Has it changed at all from having more of an interesting, liberal arts feel, to a school obsessed with status that has more of an “Ivy League” feel? If so, how has Barnard’s vibe/feeling/culture shifted?

Barnard has always been a highly competitive environment, so the increasing competition in the applicant pool hasn’t made that big of a difference. And its identity has always been mixed with that of Columbia, so the “Ivy League” feel has always been there too.
From the experience of people I’ve known, Barnard feels small but it isn’t a “touchy feely” environment. It isn’t for the timid. That may also be a factor of it being part of a major university–and located in NYC.
