I was admitted to a top 23 school last year, but because of my dad's financial problem I had to attend a community college. I want to transfer to UChicago or Penn as a Junior next year. I heard the two schools are not CC transfer friendly. Does anybody know UChicago has ever admitted CC transfers?

High school GPA: 3.86
CC GPA: 4.0 by now
SAT1: 2160
EC: many leadership positions, PTK member

Am I competitive for the two schools?

Thank you for your input.

Try your luck. If UChicago didn’t have the case before, they will still be inspired to do so. As you may know, the former UChicago law school lecturer, also the current U.S. government Mr. Obama was also a transfer student, from a community college to Columbia. No one could predict if a transfer student will be a future senator, CEO or another President. You will be blessed.

^Obama transferred from Occidental College which is NOT a community college.
Its a private liberal arts college in LA.

UChicago has probably admitted CC students (remember that not so long ago, our acceptance rate was much higher). You can encourage UChicago to admit you by taking the hardest classes possible, getting A’s in all of them, and taking part in quality leadership activities.

Thank you all for your inputs. If UChicago has not admitted CC transfer students for recent years, should I as a CC transfer student really bother to apply?

We have no way of knowing if UChicago has admitted transfer students from community colleges in recent years. They probably have. If you really want to come to UChicago, then apply.

Yes, they’ve absolutely admitted a transfer from a community college before. I know of one personally.

Good luck.

I am so glad to hear that.

Thank you for your reply.

I am in the same situation as you. My dad’s financial problems led me to agree to go to community college instead of one of the many other choices I had. I also am applying to UChicago for tranfer. Good luck!
