Hastings Hotel

Got this a few days go...I would be all over this if they only offered singles....

Dear Trinity student,

Due to the fact that an unexpectedly high number of incoming first-year students has accepted our invitation to enroll at Trinity, along with fluctuations in the study-abroad and transfer-student populations, we are experiencing a shortage of dorm space on campus and we will be housing students off-campus. We are committed to housing our incoming first-year students on campus in order to make the transition to college life easier and smoother for them. We want to give upper-class students who already have housing and who for one reason or another might prefer an alternate housing option the opportunity to choose it. For those who are involved in internships, have a group of friends that would like to live together, or would simply enjoy living in a new environment, we wanted to give you the option before we assign students who have not yet been housed.

The new housing option is in the former Hastings Hotel and is located about one mile from campus at the corner of Sigourney St. and Farmington Ave., within walking distance of Union Place and the Mark Twain House. The facility will house the Connecticut Culinary Institute (CCI) and serve as their Hartford campus. The CCI has generously offered us the use of a designated section of rooms to house our students. The College is arranging for shuttle transportation that will run regularly between the CCI and the campus. The rooms will be double occupancy, with attached bathrooms in each room, along with cable and wireless internet access. Each floor has lounge spaces with a pool table and/or other recreational activities. The common areas in this former luxury hotel are quite lavish and include an indoor basketball court, restaurant, a fitness center, and additional lounge spaces on the first few levels of the building. The College will structure a meal plan that will allow students at the CCI to take some meals there.

We are providing you with a link to a Web page with photos and descriptions of the accommodations: www.trincoll.edu/StudentLife/campuslife/residential/cci.

Please review the facilities before making your decision. The CCI is offering tours of the facility, with advance notice, if you would like to see it firsthand. To arrange a tour, please contact Brooke Baran of the CCI at 203-887-6121. We are expecting to house about 50 Trinity students, so we cannot guarantee that everyone who requests to live there will be able to do so. To be considered you must let us know of your interest by June 23, 2006. If you have any questions regarding this new housing option, please contact the Office of Campus Life at susan.salisbury@trincoll.edu or 860-297-2305.

Sincerely,
