Hasty Pudding Club

DD has been admitted but the only contact she has is in the Hasty Pudding Club. Are there other purely social groups that are open to public school kids? What are they?

For freshmen, Hasty Pudding Club (not the theatrical group) is the only private social club, and it consists mainly of New England prep school students, or the well-connected.

In the winter (February) of freshman year the four sororities begin recruitment. (They, and the final clubs, are not recognized officially by Harvard.)

In sophomore year the women’s final clubs “punch” prospective members in October and November. As the final clubs often have their own criteria (NYC preps; jocks; $$$, etc.), it is hard to say where a public school girl would fit in. It can be a very harsh, exclusive social system.

She may find the most luck with Harvard-sanctioned campus clubs centered around
activities, as they must allow everyone in.
