Does anyone know about UMich and Tufts Syndrome? I know this is a touchy subject and don't want to offend anyone, but I am just wondering if anyone has heard anything.

I got curious and searched it up...here's a thread from 2005 about Tufts Syndrome:

umich syndrome does not exist.

You will have a variation of the "Tufts Syndome" at any university except for Harvard. But I have noticed that this sort of insecurty is far and away more pronounced at elite private universities.

Yeah, I think we're more likely to try and recruit top candidates than reject them so we can feel better about ourselves.

I've heard a lot of crazy stuff through other people at my school, and not really sure what's true. Do you guys know if colleges like UM are notified when other colleges accept you?

U-M doesn't do its admissions in this fashion--that is, choosing one candidate over another based on perceived likelihood of enrollment, or as a way to "punish" students for selecting U-M a a safety. Sorry, we have neither the staff nor the time to do that.

"Tuft Syndrome" when you have a 50% acceptance rate? You are kidding, right?

It's 41% GoBlue81, it might go up again this year though

UM publicized its rate at 30% when i visited in august for a tour and what not. Seems to vary quite largely based on where you look for rate.

U-M published its 2008 acceptance rate here officially (http://www.admissions.umich.edu/about/):

29,105 applications
11,953 admissions

Whether it's 41% or around 50% for previous years, there is way above schools known to be infected with the Tufts Syndrome.
