This weekend my son decided to abandon his quest for the USMA and travel to the Ukraine in August to repeat his senior year of High School abroad with the Rotary International Student Exchange. He is a student of the Russian language and using his IPod he has learned enough on his own to converse with the DODMEB doctor who is an immigrant from Russia. The doctor was quite startled when he introduced himself in Russian.

He successfully received a nomination from our Congressmens Office back in early December. However when contacted by the Admissions Liaison Officer he was told it was not necessary to conduct an interview at this time unless he raised his SAT scores by at least 200 pts. This call reduced his morale but it did not discourage him completely. He continued with his CFA training and received tutoring after school right up to his SAT test on 1/24. He received his results this past Saturday and successfully raised them by 150 pts!

English and Writing are his strong subjects with Math being his cross to bear. Based on what we have learned from all of the great contributors of this forum he has elected not to complete his application and to attend Penn State University in September of 2010 upon his return from the Ukraine.

I enjoy reading all of the posts and encourage all applicants to have a back-up plan.
