I've seen a lot of threads from people interested in doing a summer research internship (self included!) but I was wondering if anyone on CC has actually obtained one? especially if it was PAID?? Either for science, engineering, or math type fields (like the NSA Cryptography summer program). What were your stats if you did (i.e., major, classes, gpa, did your high school record matter, any general info!!)

Waiting for the official offer but D had summer internship interview w/ Genzyme on Monday. Parting words were that “it was a done deal” and that it was just a matter of HR’s paperwork. It will be a paid position. D is a lifescience major w/ concentration TBD. Did include high school stats in resume but don’t know if it made a difference.

The main comment I will share, because it surprised me, relates to the second intern who is to be hired for this department. One interviewer chose to discuss w/ D info about those being considered for the second position. I think 15 applications were being considered and she had gotten it down to 2 for the final interviews. The comment was how certain applications were eliminated because the applicant was so specific about what they wanted and it did not match the department’s research. I always thought that specificity was good. I guess that is not always the case.

We continue to watch the mail. Despite what was said to her, D will feel more secure when she has the offer in her hand.
