I registered for orientation yesterday, im scheduled for july 11th, Now I have a registration hold that says I can’t add classes until I attend my orientation date. I’m worried that all the classes I need will be filled up by then because registration for Fall begins on May 20. Does anyone how fast classes fill up at CPP? Also does this mean I can’t do summer through the open university?

i have mine for july 25th as i am a transfer student, form what i understand they set classes aside for new incoming students so that at orientation they have classes put aside to fit in the new students.

And those classes set aside are based on the major we applied for? That sucks cause I got accepted as an econ major but i want to switch to accounting. I was hoping to just start on the accounting coursework this fall and not even bother with econ.

i believe that the school policy is that you must attend at least one quarter before being able to change your major.

yes I’m aware of that, but there’s no rule that says you can’t take courses outside your current major is there?

i dont think so, and i wouldn’t and i don’t think during orientation they would advise you to do that because there is no guarantee that they will approve your change of major

what kind of stuff do they look at when considering change of major petitions? I applied to CPP thinking econ was under their business program which it’s not, so I have all the core and support classes completed for the business administration major with a 3.8.

i really dont know the previous posts have been from what i have read on their website but i think you have a chance as your stats are really good.

You were admitted for Fall 2013, not summer. So no, you won’t be able to register for summer classes.

You cannot change your major until after your first quarter.

Yes they do have additional classes set aside for new students (FTF and transfers).

There are some classes which are only available to certain majors, but if it’s not specified then anyone can enroll in that course. There’s no enrollment guru keeping watch over what you’ve registered for, so you can enroll in whatever you want as long as you meet the prerequisites.

Even if you’re not able to take any accounting courses there are still GE’s to take. Oh, you thought you were done with GE’s? HAHAHAHA. You have three more upper division GE classes to take! Look up the GE synthesis classes for more info.

thanks for the help guys. I spoke with the accounting department in person and it seems like it should be a fairly easy and straightforward process. And I actually was able to register for the summer through the open university, even though I was admitted for fall.
